Busy Day

I suppose sitting in the shade would be the logical thing to do when it's this hot but after a while you get to the point of wanting some things done. For a couple of years I've wanted to get rid of some of my very old massive Daylilies but in Spring I can't remember what colour they were and I'm afraid I'll get rid of ones I wanted to keep. So in all this heat I asked son #3 if he'd dig out this one ( I have 3 more same colour and same size!)

Here it is on the way to the compost heap.

Before he started to dig I cut off most of the blooms and brought them in.

We went to the fruit & veg market and bought another box of cherries. I've gotten most of them in the freezer already.

The house is hot and I didn't think it would get much hotter if I used the oven so I made a Crustless Quiche for supper. Not wanting to turn the oven on for one thing I mixed up a batch of Cranberry Scones. Almost burnt them. Must remember to either turn the heat down a bit or bake them for less time.

So that is what I did today. Tomorrow is forecast to be as hot as it was today. At least I won't have to  make anything for supper since we ate only a third of the quiche.

Have a great weekend and Happy Fourth of July to you in the U.S.

Thanks for visiting.   Granny M.

  1. Hi!! Sounds too hot there to work for me!! LOL That is one huge Daylily and the blooms look so pretty on your table! The scones didn't look burnt to me but looks yummy. Have a safe 4th! Nancy

  2. Don't know about you, but I've had enough of this heat! I'm pretty sure I have that same daylily, and it seems to be good at replicating itself:) My raspberry lady called and asked if I could pick up some of the raspberries I ordered, so 90 lbs of those added to the freezer. Yes, most of the fruit is for jam. Larry picked through all the blueberries and got them bagged up. A 'none exertive' kind of job for him.
And I made a very similar quiche type thing for breakfast yesterday. There is only one small piece left, unfortunately.
I think we should all get together and do a rain dance:)

  3. Hi GM! I got rid of my lilies. They were monstrous and I realized how long we had had them around. That is one BIG lily!
I'm sorry that your weather is SO HOT! Yikes!
Oh, the scones look perfect to me.

  4. That clump of lilies is just unbelievable! They look really pretty in the vase. That quiche makes me hungry. I've never seen one look that delicious...and those scones. You really did get a lot done!

  6. I'm in agreement with everyone. I NEED some of that quiche! :) The scones are beautiful! Stay cool. I went out and mowed a bit today, then decided it was too hot and the yard would survive without me. We could use some rain here. The grass is fried! Blessings on you, Granny! :)

  7. That was huge. I didn't see it the first time. Then I saw your son's two feet and the lily when I came back to your blog.

  8. Wow, what a massive daylily. Too bad you & I can't trade - some of your daylily root (and a piece of that delicious quiche) for some of our heavy rainfall (3 inches in just over 15 hours). Hope you manage to keep cool!

    1. Do you not have that double orange Daylily?

    2. Yes I do but interestingly it grows bigger and bigger and is actually a garden thug but it will not bloom more than a scape or two a season. Not worth having it in the garden at that rate and I've had it for years and years. It has quite the root base though so I'm impressed that you were able to dig yours out in one chunk. Mine might need a backhoe :)
