This and That

Yesterday I dug out several overgrown, sprawling Lavender plants. The bees were all over them so I waited until the evening to cut bunches of Lavender before chucking the plants in the compost. I got ten bunches which I am drying on my clotheshorse.  I put it in the buttery, out of the way, since every time someone nudges them the flowers fall off.  My house smells wonderful!

A trip to the nursery to buy replacement Lavender plantlets resulted in these two huge perennials coming home with me ( as well as the Lavenders)  On the left is a very double Rudbeckia and the other is a pot with two different coloured Foxgloves...one white speckled with red and the other a peach. Sorry it's so hard to see.

The Lavender on the right is from last year and the row of tiny ones are the .69 ones I got 6 of yesterday.

It was a lovely morning for my walk, not too warm at all. You can see how brown and sere the grass is.   Looks more like sand on the pics.

Of course the lake remains pretty. The water level is lower than usual but rain is forecast for the next three days. Well, actually it's more like showers, not rain, but hopefully it will help alleviate the drought conditions.

Once again, thanks for visiting. Have a happy Thursday!   Granny M.

  1. We are more similar than you think:) Are you British, calling it a clothes horse? I was born in Yorkshire. Funny about Devan, I've been there a few times, and have bought some of their amazing deals, including two of those same rudbeckias. I have to go out and buy jars shortly, and was thinking of stopping there on my way back.

  2. No, I'm Canadian born and bred :) What else will I call it? A drying rack? Such an ordinary name for such a useful item. Did you find jars? And deals at Devan? That Lavender is dirt cheap and grows so fast you'll be selling bundles of it at the Farmer's Market next year.

    1. Yes, got the jars at Walmart Highstreet. Stopped at Devan, was sad I missed the hanging baskets for $3.98, There were a few impatiens ones left, I got one of those. No 69 cent lavender left, unless it was outside somewhere, but I did manage to spend $27 there on other things. It's half price at MCC west tomorrow:)
I thought clotheshorse was a British expression, and would have thought that most people wouldn't have known what you were talking about, but maybe I'm totally mixed up here.

    2. Oh dear. I should have mentioned that the Lavender is marked as being .98 but goes in at .69. Sorry. Sure is easy to leave money there ( and anywhere else). One place I won't be leaving any is at half-price days. I'm not so comfortable in crowds of people. Experienced it once ( at MCC) and vowed never again.

    3. The only lavender I saw was $2.98. I find that MCC has so many sales now that it's not as busy as it used to be on the half price weekend. It can be quite busy every three months when they put the white tags on sale as well, though.

    1. I chose Lavender Munstead which seems to be the most recommended. One of the old plants I dug out was a white one which I thought would be a nice change but I found I like Lavender to be purple!!
