Aprons, vegetables, and a wasp

Do you wear an apron when you work in the kitchen?  I do, and have a nice assortment of aprons. My sister will recognize the two she sewed for me. The Company's Coming apron I won in a draw a number of years ago along with the Pie cookbook that came out that year.   I really like the red/floral one because it has three nice big pockets and those are so handy!

In the cool of the morning I went out to water a few things and do some deadheading. I brought in these luscious veggies that will be eaten before this day is done.

When I came indoors I sat down at my computer and felt something tickle my bare shoulder. I absentmindedly wiped "it" off but "it" turned out to be a large and angry wasp that proceeded to sting me. It's been years since I got stung. I ran to the kitchen to get an ice cube to hold on my hand. Later I went in search of said wasp, found him and now he's floating in the toilet bowl. I go check on him from time to time to see if he's moving. So far he hasn't shown any sign of life.

That is my day so far.  How is yours progressing?

  1. Yes, I do recognize the aprons! And yes, I wear one as I'm too messy a cook to chance it! Sorry to hear that you got bitten by the wasp! Did it swell up alot?

    1. It didn't swell that much but looks and feels like I scalded an area about the size of a toonie.

The collection of aprons doesn't include my Christmas ones that you also sewed.

  2. I wear aprons too. I have to as I can be a messy cook. I am fortunate to have some of my Mum's and some of my Grandmother's. I do cherish them.
I hope your hand is feeling better.
    Your vegetables look delicious!

  3. Love your aprons. My mom always wore an apron but I never really got into it. Had to chuckle when you wrote that your sister sewed two for you. Well, we know which sister it was not?!! LOL

    1. Only one of us got the sewing talent and sadly it was not me or you. Although you were better at hemming pants than I.

  4. I hate that the wasp stung you. It seems to take forever for a wasp or yellow jacket sting to stop hurting. I make and sell aprons and NEVER remember to wear one myself. It's crazy. I'm always splattering grease on my tops.

  5. Hi! Yes, I do wear an apron when cooking. After splattering on my T-shirts I have finally learned to do that. I love the half ones for looks but I need the bib part on mine!!! Your garden veggies are picture perfect! Nancy

  6. I too wear aprons all the time when I am dealing with fruit or making jam. They are usually ones I picked up from a thrift store, although I make loads of them to sell to other people. Good thing not everyone shops at thrift stores;-) I too harvested quite a pile of ripe tomatoes this morning. We had been away for a few days. The tomato plants are getting rather wild.
Also, last Sat evening while picking beets for Sunday's market, I got stung by something, didn't see it. On my inner lower arm. Hurt like h*ll and I finally had to go in and put a baking soda paste on it. The it got a bit swollen and red. Next morning it really swollen from my elbow to my wrist, red and very hot. Finally got some Benedryl after the market was over, but it didn't do a thing, maybe it was too late at that point? When my DD say it that evening she said if it got worse to go to the doctor's (she works in a drs office) She was worried about infection. Anyway, didn't get worse and finally by Thursday it was pretty well back to normal. Next time I will take the Benedryl right away, now that I have it on hand.

    1. I ran for an ice cube when I got stung. I knew we had Benedryl in the house but it's the nighttime one and I figured I'd get drowsy and I had things I had to do.
I;m glad your arm is pretty well better.
