Craft Fair and more

Fall to me means craft fairs, beginning with the Autumn themed ones and not so long  after, the Christmas ones. So DH and I were off first thing this morning to one that was held in my favourite nursery. It's so large a place that even with all the tables set up it was not crowded ( something I really appreciate).  These birdhouses were very cute but expensive at $40.

Much work had gone into decorating and it looked great.

I must show you what I think was the most unusual "craft" at the sale.  I wanted to take a couple of these cuties home. Silly municipal by-laws that prohibit chickens in backyards!!

Moving into the nursery area we admired all the colourful Mums and different arrangements but what I wanted were the Spring bulbs. I almost bought one of these pepper plants.

I chose 20 assorted Daffodil bulbs and had a coupon for another 10.

On the way home we stopped at a farm that had pumpkins and all kinds of squash for sale. Only .35 a lb.  Look at all the shapes and colours!!  Thanks Karen, for telling me about this place,

I came home and planted my bulbs right away. Since I dare not dig anywhere in the flowerbeds ( or I will accidentally cut into established bulbs)  I filled two planters that are movable so after they are finished blooming in Spring I can move them into an out-of-the-way area.

One last picture....my pumpkin pies for tomorrow and some cherry jam for our morning toast.

Happy Saturday!!

  1. Yes, the birdhouses are way off my budget, but the squash are a bargain. I'm thinking of baked squash with a very little brown sugar, butter and slivered almonds or walnuts. Phil/Eagle Bend, MN

  2. I love craft fairs too. I'm one of those people that looks at stuff and says "I can make that" but I never do! Your pies looks so delicious... I made apple pie last week, maybe pumpkin will be next!

  3. Glad you found the squash place, looks like they have loads left! Did you buy any? I did make it to Devan, but ended up not wandering around the craft fair. I was paying for my cabbages (wonder if they will do anything over the winter, but so cheap, $1.49 for 16 healthy plants) and the power went out, well just after I had paid, and then I forgot all about coming back in to the craft fair because I started wondering whether our power at home had gone out too. (it didn't, thank goodness). Your pies look great, Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. I remembered you mentioned Delicata squash so I got a couple of those, a spaghetti S and a sugar pumpkin.
Too bad about the power outage. For you and also for the craft vendors. What time was it when it went out?

  4. What a great deal! 35 cents a pound? Wow! Lovely crafts at the show. I must go to our nursery and get some spring bulbs too.
