This and That

I totally forgot to show you the pretty old table runners, doilies and hankies I bought at a garage sale last Saturday. They were priced at ten and twenty-five cents a piece. How could I resist?

I love this shabby chic napkin holder that was only a dollar......

and here it is filled with paper napkins and my tiny bouquet of Lily-of-the-valley beside it. I think those flowers smell like heaven.

I guess this is what you can expect to find in your kitchen when a little boy lives in your house. How dear that little fellow is to me. He has no school tomorrow or Monday so I think we'll be spending some quality time together. Today I killed yet another wasp on the porch and he ran for my big magnifying glass so we could take a good look at it.

Thanks for visiting today. I love to read your comments so don't hesitate to leave one.

Pink

I am so pleased with my pink Spring blooming Clematis and my pink bird feeder that I just had to share.

The Chickadees are once again busily coming and going. They like the black oil sunflower seeds.

Thanks for visiting. Hope your week is off to a good start.

A Car and some Ducks

This is what I saw on my morning walk.....

How would you like to parallel park this boat?  I have no idea what year it is but the car is a Chrysler Imperial LeBaron ( I know this because I saw it on the car, not because I know anything about cars.)

              Another view.....

         ...and one last one.

Also saw my very first ducklings of this year.  Aren't they cute?

Thanks for visiting today.

This and That

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a lovely weekend. Saturday was a bit chilly but Sunday and today it is warm ( 26 now at 2 P.M.) that would be close to 80 F.  Not bad at all for April.

We went to some garage sales on Saturday but found little that I really wanted. I say 'really' because there were things I liked but I am better at asking myself if I have space for said items.

This Wisteria was blooming in front of one of the houses that had g.s. It had a wonderful scent.

This handbag came not from a gs but from a thrift store,  I love all the compartments that it has. Also love the colour!

I went on a search for Zinnia seeds which you wouldn't think would be such a task but I had to go to no less than 5 shops before I finally found what I was looking for. In one of the shops this kitty was having a nap. It opened one eye when I snapped a pic but then went promptle back to sleep.

In my garden the English Daisies are in full bloom ......

....as are the Spanish Bluebells, which I find are quite invasive. I have white and also blue ones.

That's it for today. I think I'll go see if the porch is too warm for sitting and also if the darn wasps are still hanging out there. Earlier I got so fed-up with them that I got the vacuum out there and vacuumed about ten of them. They are quite aggressive and I'm not about to be bullied off my porch.

Thanks for visiting.

This Week

Let me show you a few of my thrifty purchases of the week....this heavy urn ( maybe made of plaster??) was a dollar. I couldn't believe my eyes! It has a hole in the bottom but that didn't prevent me from buying it, along with an assortment of pretty doilies that were .25 each.

I love cozy cardigans and wear them a lot since I tend to feel cold. I do like this bright  coral coloured one. Almost didn't try it on since it's a size small and I usually wear a medium or even a large. It doesn't pay to not check though because sizes are strange that way.

For years I've lamented that I couldn't get African Violets to rebloom. Oh they had lovely leaves but if they developed buds they were few and far between.  Somehow my luck changed and these three are proof of that.

This week in my kitchen.....nectarine jam. We must have gotten a real deal on nectarines last year because I rarely freeze any. In fact I suspect that although the bag was labeled nectarines I'm fairly sure it also held apricots.. In any case the jam is tasty!  One bag of fruit made 4 little jars plus the jam dish full.

A couple of over-ripe bananas that I didn't want to throw away led me to make this banana cake. I just happened to have cream cheese icing in the fridge too. YUM.

Well, those are some of the things that my week held. How about yours?

Thanks for popping by.  Why not leave a comment so I know you did.

Rhubarb and Lilacs

One of the joys of spring is rhubarb. Last fall we were given this plant and since it was so recently transplanted I didn't think we'd be able to harvest any this year. However, it seems to be doing well except I've already had to cut out two of these ugly seed heads.
In any case, today DH brought in 5 nice stalks and I had taken out a container of frozen strawberries so we had strawberry rhubarb crisp for dessert at supper.

We needed bread so since I had the oven on I also put the breadmaker to good use. The loaf on the left is just an ordinary loaf but the rather lumpy one on the right was an experiment. I took half the dough and tried to knead in raisins and cinnamon.  I'm looking forward to having it toasted for breakfasts this week.

Do you love lilacs? I do and I wish they bloomed all summer instead of a few short weeks in spring.

Happy Tuesday and I hope the sun is shining for you.  Thanks for visiting!

Blooms

Some Dandelions are so big and lush they could qualify as flowers ( if they weren't so invasive). This one looks like it has been attached to a small stick. Didn't notice that when I snapped the pic.

Some of my Daffodils were falling over so I cut them and brought them in to enjoy.

Primroses do not like my sunroom on warm days so I line them up on the North side of the house near the front door where they are a lot happier. The forecast is for cooler, cloudy weather so I can bring them back in.

All my Tulips are blooming now....

and this one is my favourite.

This little Tulip is similar to the one I like so much but much smaller. I like the purple one beside it and the Primroses in front . All too soon this stage of the garden will be past. Another 11 months to wait for it to come around once again. That's what gardening is all about. Enjoying each stage.

I hope you are enjoying a lovely weekend.    Thanks for visiting today.  Please leave a comment so I'll know you were here.

Injured

I have a reputation for being accident prone. That is a polite way of saying that I'm a klutz. I run into things or trip on whatever there is to trip on. But honestly, today WAS NOT MY FAULT.  My DH had been kind enough to peel the potatoes for supper but somehow a piece of potato peel fell on the floor  and you know who slipped on it and went crashing into the dining room. I flailed my arms in a vain attempt not to fall but fall I did.  I landed rather heavily on the back of a chair then onto the floor. My ribs hurt and I have a bruised knee and two fingernails that are turning dark ( now how did THAT happen? Maybe it was the flailing bit.)   It hurts to laugh or to take a deep breath so I know I bruised my ribs. Tonight I'll take a painkiller and hopefully sleep.  Tomorrow I will sit on the porch and read and not do anything useful.

Thanks for listening to my tale of woe.
