Foxgloves and Iris

Foxgloves and Iris are doing great in my garden this year. I can't remember a year when I had as many self-sown Foxgloves. They pop up and I can't bear to pull out even one.

This is the first year I have this white Iris and by sheer luck I seem to have put it right in front of the white Peony.

There is a peach-coloured Foxglove in front of the roses. It's hard to see it's true colour here but
I bought it last year but it didn't bloom until now.
I haven't grown Poppies for years but I see I have an occasional red one that still pops up.

I think this is the loveliest time of the year. We're in for a cooler week so all the blooming flowers will last longer than when it gets too warm. It's dry though and we could do with some rain.
I hope you have a good week.

  1. I love foxglove too. They do well here in our often shady garden. Not so iris and peonies, which want much more sun that we can give them.
This is a most glorious time of year, and I'm glad for cooler weather to slow things down a bit.

  2. GORGEOUS!!!!
I tried for YEARS to get Foxglove established in my garden and wow-this past year they finally took. I'm hoping for a fine showing this year based on all the seedlings last year.
    Enjoy your beautiful blooms

  3. Everything is so early this year. I have one pretty iris that stays standing up, and the rest are those purpley yellow ones that are really tall and just flop over. I had cut off all the flopped over ones, and then next day or two all the rest went over. Too much work to stake them! Your foxgloves are lovely, I'm envious! I'm so sad, I had a big new patch of self seeded ones this year, and my son in his urge to tidy the place, just thought it was a big patch of weeds and weedeated it to the ground. I just about cried:(

    1. Oh Karen, I'm sorry about your foxgloves being weeded out. My DH hoed out an entire bed of Sweet William one year. He too thought they were weeds.

  4. Your flowers are absolutely beautiful!! I love Foxglove too and grew a few one year. Mama was here when they were in bloom and she just loved them. Maybe I should try growing them again...now that I know a little more about getting the soil right. I enjoyed your last post. You have a handsome son. Glad you had a happy Mother's Day. Oh, and that quilt and pillow sham looks really pretty. Those are my favorite colors.

  7. Oh, how LOVELY! You have a wonderful cottage garden, GM.
My sister has a bank of foxglove this year, too. It must be a good year for foxglove in the Pacific Northwest!

  9. Foxglove are so pretty and I would like to have some but read that they are poisonous to dogs and since Coco eats so many things. I am afraid to give her a chance so don't have any. Nancy

Oh, and the little teacups are so whimsical and add so much cottage charm. I am impressed to say the least.
