Books

Now, is that not the most unimaginative title of a post ever?
Maybe the heat has dulled my brain. It is so hot that I realized that the water in  the concrete birdbath was HOT. No birds would drink it so I put cool water in and put an ice pack into the water to keep it that way.

Made a short trip to the thrift store to take boxes of stuff  then had a quick look at the books. I'm so glad I did. I am enthralled by this book of pencil sketches and water colour pictures of wild flowers. I'll show just a couple of the lovely pages here.

In the bargain section I picked up this one. I tried to read a Mitford book some years ago and just couldn't get into it. So many of you love them so I'll give it another chance

Have a great weekend and keep cool!

  1. I have read every book in the series and I absolutely love them! I think if you will read through the first couple of chapters you will fall in love with Father Tim and all the other characters, I hope so anyway. Always enjoy reading your posts. Paulette

  4. I have that Mitford book-picked it up at the annual library sale. Good read for the long days of winter.

  6. I'm smiling and nodding at that quote. Last night my husband and I were discussing what to do this weekend and he said if we stayed home and read all weekend it would be fine with him. It is HOT here too and reading in the A/C seems to be an enjoyable way to pass the time. Although occasional ice tea and ice cream breaks are nice too :).
I have read all of the Mitford books and love them.
Your new book with the flowers looks delightful.

  8. That first book is such a treasure to find at a thrift shop! I found a bunch of books at my local thrift shop a while back. I'd never thought to look through the books! I also brought home one of the Mitford books. There are so many, I'm not sure if I've read it before or not. I'll find out when I get around to looking at it. The freezer pack in the bird bath is a good idea!

  9. Will have to check out the Mitford books. The one you got with the flowers is just lovely! I was at Mcc for their half price sale yesterday, as well as the store just down the road by the freeway. Got some good buys, and it was sort of my day off this week and what I do for entertainment ;-)

  10. What a beautiful book you found. I am going to add it to the list of books I keep in my purse. I have been lucky over the years to be able to find most of the books on it.
I hope you can get into the Father Tim books. They are enjoyable.
