Sunday Walk

It was cloudy this morning and cooler than it has been for a while. We took advantage of the coolness to walk in an area that has no shade and we hadn't visited for some weeks.

As you can see it's a wetlands park. Lots of ducks and geese on the water and this unusual heron which I had to look up when we got home. It is a Green-Backed Heron, the first time I've seen one.

Kingfishers are not easy to photograph. They take off, scolding as they fly, as soon as you stop to look at them. This one stayed just long enough for me to get a pic.

This female Wood Duck had a number of cute babies. She wasn't happy about us watching her but couldn't fly off and leave her little ones so we didn't look for long.

I'm glad we were able to get that walk in before the clouds drifted away and the afternoon sun brought the temperature back up to what we've been having.  There is a chance of rain this week and we could use it. Here's hoping.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. Seeing a green heron in the wild is a very special privilege, one I have yet to experience.
Kingfisher are wonderful little guys, one of my favorites that inhabit the lagoon behind our cabin on Whidbey Island. They are amazing fishers.

  4. That was such a pretty walk! We see a Kingfisher occasionally around the pond and they do make a fuss when they fly off. I love to see them. Hope you get some rain this week.

  6. Hi Granny Marigold, That sure looked like a beautiful place to walk. What fun to take your camera with you. You got to see a lot of wildlife. I don't have much energy right now to walk. About all the walking I do is walking Coco around the apartments to take care of her necessities. Nancy

  8. I've painted a picture of a green heron, but I've never seen one in real life. Blue herons are easier to spot around here. Maybe because they're larger. What a pretty place to walk! Hope it doesn't get too hot where you are, and that you get that much needed rain! :)

  9. Well we got a bit of rain, but now enough to do us much good. I did put the sprinkler on parts of the vegetable garden, finally. Lots of interesting bird life on your walk!
