Yellow

At this time of the year yellow seems to be the predominant colour. There's corn of course. At least once a summer we like to make a meal of just corn-on-the-cob and that is exactly what we did today.  How do you cook your corn?  We microwave ours one cob at a time for 4 to 5 minutes, depending on the size of the cob. After cooking we cut  the end off the cob right through the husk and pull the end off. Ideally it brings all the corn silk with it.  This method would be too long if you were cooking for a family, of course, but works well for the two of us.

I neglected to take any photos so these are all off the internet. Pretty well what I would have taken but these are probably clearer.

Brown-eyed Susans are at their best now.  Mine have self-sown a lot and will need some thinning out next Spring.

Gold Finches have been coming to the bird bath lately.  Because of the dryness we've also had a Nuthatch coming. He's not yellow but deserves a mention because we don't see him often.

The hot weather has made me very lazy and uninspired when it comes to blogging. Thanks for coming by faithfully. I hope to do a better post next time!

  2. I think it's a great post!---CORN is the ultimate summer treat.
We always make the first meal after the corn is ready JUST corn and LOTS of it. I get my big ol' stock pot fired up and it can cook 9 ears at a time. Yep. We'll let YOU decide who eats all that between 2 people. Ha!

  4. August is supposed to be a lazy month, the dog days of summer.
We have lately been grilling our corn on the cob. We husk it, smear it with melted butter and chopped cilantro, slightly char it and serve it sprinkled with lime juice and salt.

  5. It is very yellow this time of year. I have been noticing everyones brown eyed susan's are lovely.
I still boil my corn. I have been meaning to try microwaving it. The man we buy our corn from at the farmers market said it is best done in an asparagus steamer. Must look for one.
    Have a good week!

  8. We cooked the corn the same way, but more than one at a time. I think maybe 10 minutes for 4 cobs. I love that method, no muss no fuss. Cut the base off and pull all the silk and husk off the other end in one go. Easy Peasy! Yellow is such a cheery colour.

  9. I eat corn on the cob so seldom I usually have to Google instructions on how to boil it! And I rarely get it at its best, but I love it when I do! I just love nuthatches. One has visited my balcony a few times. They are so bossy and particular. Throwing seeds all over the place until they find just the one they want, and then away they go! :)
