Sadness

I really debated whether to post about this because it's such a downer but finally decided I'd go ahead.
Yesterday I ran some errands. The last one was to return some library books at the library just a short walk from our house. When a new high school was needed a few years ago it was built to include this lovely big library and also various community rooms. It's a great place.
A few hours after I was there a deranged man with a knife barged into the high school part and stabbed two young girls ( aged only 13 and 14).  Staff were able to subdue him and hold him until police arrived. Tragically the 13 year old has now died.
Our community is changing. Almost weekly we hear of another drive-by shooting or some other gang-related horror.  People high on drugs terrorize citizens. Just last week one of those unfortunates crashed through some people's front window and ran bleeding  to cower in their bathroom where he stayed until police came to pick him up.
This post should have come with a warning DO NOT READ THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DEPRESSED.

  4. It is indeed a changing world, and not for the better.
I think we need to return to simpler times. People are miserable and they suppress their feelings in drugs and alcohol. I think the collapse of the family is a HUGE part of this. We need stay-at-home moms again. These kids grow up feeling unloved and unwanted. They're raising themselves. It's so sad............

  7. Dear G.M. I was so saddened to hear this on the news and now to read that you were/are directly affected by this senseless violence. I am so sorry that your sense of peace and security has been so violated and shattered. I mourn for these two young girls and for their families as well as for your community at large. Thank you for sharing this post even if it is a sad one...we all need to support each other in these times.

  8. I'm so sorry. It's the same way here. Makes you hate to hear the news because just about every morning there has been another senseless killing. Last week it was a young teenage girl and a three year old child, shot while they played on their front porch. The teenager died and the baby is still in the hospital. It is very sad and depressing that the world has come to this. I agree with Sue's comment. Children need stay at home moms again.

  10. It makes me so sad to repeatedly hear these stories of children being attacked while at school. As a grandmother now I can't help but feel that we aren't protecting children as well as we should. I wish I knew the answer.

  11. This is so sad, there seems to be no values and morals anymore. What really saddens me is that society is beginning to accept this as the norm.

  12. In large cities, tragedies are a daily occurrence, but it is especially hard when children are attacked in their schools, a place where they should be able to feel safe.

  13. We are in Oliver at the moment, but have managed to keep up with some of the news. What a tragedy, so hard to imagine. You are right, Abbotsford seems to have been in the news a lot lately, and not in a good way. My heart goes out to the families of the girls.

  14. I found you at Happy at Home blog and like what I see. Not the above post because like you say, it's depressing, but I like your layout, what you have to say, the pictures. So, by golly, I am going to start following you and put you on my blog list. Be watching for me from time to time....

  15. I am so sorry to read this. It is sad how people act. Our country needs to get back to christian basics it was founded on and less violence on TV and video games. Sorry. My thoughts! Nancy
