A few Spring Blooms

The few days of sunshine that we had brought some welcome blooms to my garden.

                                        Daffodils, of course,

                                          A small patch of Violets

Scillas have naturalized and spread their lovely true blue flowers all over both the front and back gardens.

My faithful Bloodroot blooms every Spring.  The pure white flowers appear before the foliage begins to unfold.  After blooming the large leaves will grow to their full size  and if  I remember to keep it watered they stay nice all summer. Otherwise the plant sort of disappears ( which is why I've chosen to grow it in a pot.)

Today we are back to rain again and that's the forecast for the next 3 or 4 days.
BTW, I went to the thrift store today and found a wide brimmed gardening hat. Well, it's more like a Tilly hat but I'm going to use it to keep my face from getting sunburned again!!

Thanks for popping in. If you leave a comment I'll know you came by.

  1. That bloodroot is sure a pretty one. Interesting how it "disappears". I couldn't keep that in the garden, I'd end up digging it under by accident

  2. I am so glad spring if finally getting around to most everybody. You have sure had the rain! I have lots of Scillas (I did not know their name) in my front weedy flower garden. It is such a pretty blue. I meant to tell you, what folks around here call 'monkey grass' is really liriope.

  3. Hi Granny Marigold, I loved reading on Luna Moon's blog how you came to call your blog that!
Love your flowers, we are just starting to see violets here and a few daffodil heads. I noticed yesterday my tulips are up that I planted last Fall.
We are in for a couple days of rain too.
    Take care.

  5. That sunshine must have been a welcome sight after all of your rain. Glad you were able to enjoy it. Your flowers look beautiful. I am not familiar with bloodroot. It is prettier than it's name. Interesting about it's blooming habits.

  7. Soooo pretty flowers!!!

I especially love the violets. When I see them here, I know it is spring.

Glad you got a sun hat!!!!!

I looked up "Tilly hat," and am happy to know it is a sun protection hat. Like they wear in "Oz." I got one of them for my husband to wear, out in the sun.

  9. Hello Granny,
I am sorry that I've missed the last couple of posts. Somehow what got "bookmarked" was a few posts ago...and of course it never occurred to me to check it out. That is what I just did...and now I get to view your lovely blooms. The Bloodroot is such an interesting plant. I hope you will post a picture of it once the leaves come out on it nice and full.

  10. The rain has been depressing, but finally looks like it's clearing for a bit. I don't have the bloodroot, but I have the rest, although my daffodils seem to be getting rather thinned out. I think you might be ahead of me, I haven't noticed the Scilla blooming yet. Will check when I go outside.

  14. I have never grown either scillas or bloodroot, so they are particularly interesting to me, and so pretty, I am going to investigate whether they would be happy here.

  15. You sure have alot of flowers in bloom already in your part of the country. Beautiful to see tangible proof that spring is here! Do you find your scillas invasive? I have never planted any because I've read that they are hard to control. Your thoughts?

    1. Oh yes, the Scillas spread like mad! I'll try to remember to take a photo of the front garden where at this time of the year they are amazing. Later they sort of disappear.
