Beatrix Potter and Cherry Pie

When I visited Susan Branch's blog today I learned that July 28 is ( or should that be would have been) Beatrix Potter's 151st  birthday. She mentioned this little journal which  is almost a scrapbook and wasn't really put together by BP but nevertheless sounds quite delightful. So in honour of her birthday I ordered my own copy. It's a used copy but apparently in very good shape, coming from the UK and will be here next month hopefully for my own birthday.

My DH came home with more cherries again today. 20 pounds to be exact. He made the pie dough and even pitted the cherries. All I had to do was put it all together!  We had a slightly cooler day today so using the oven wasn't going to make the kitchen too uncomfortable.
The rest of the cherries will be frozen for future pies or jam.

That's it for today. It's late and my eyes are falling shut so I better get to bed.

Thanks for popping by.

  1. Yum, yum! Cherry pie. That is one thing that we haven't had yet this year. Fresh cherries sound so wonderful.

  2. Hi Granny Marigold, I've never read any Beatrix Potter. Must see if I can find your book.
Your pie looks delicious! I was thinking of making a pie too but a peach one as peaches are plentiful here now.
    Have a good weekend!

    1. The movie Miss Potter is also a great way to get to know about her life. I own it and rewatch it from time to time.

  3. Could I have a piece of pie? I have that BP book (a gift from my friend Kim!)
I shall peruse my BP library today in honor of our cherished artist/authoress.

  4. Gorgeous pie!!!

I love them, made like that! With the crust folded randomly, over the top. Rather than an ordinary crust.

I think the french call it something like... gallette??? Or some such. :-)

When I made my husband's Apple Pie, it ran over. What-a-mess!!!!!! He cleaned it, but it needs more done.

Learned my lesson! Must have "drip protection" in place!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeeekkkk!!! :-)

  5. I made a cherry pie today too but from our Evans Cherry Tree which produced abundantly for us this year. What kind of cherries did you use? Looks delish! Your BP journal looks very enticing. Can you post some pics of what the inside looks like? I love her books and have watched the movie countless times too.

    1. I used the cherries that Walmart sells... don't know what kind they are but they're big and sweet..
If you go to Susan Branch's blog she shows a number of the pages of the BP journal. That's what gave me the desire to own one.

  6. Oh man does that pie ever look good! The best things come from your kitchen and I might add that I am very impressed with a husband who would pit the cherries.

  7. The journal is so pretty!! I can't imagine a husband who does anything in the kitchen...or anywhere else in the house. No wonder you call him DH. Somewhere along the way I did something wrong! That pie is amazing!!
