National Lefthanders Day

Did you know that today, August 13, is National Lefthanders Day?
My DH is a leftie as are 2 of my sons and a granddaughter.
Apparently 10% of the general population is (are) left handed.
Historically left handed people were considered inferior, with the use of the left hand being associated with witchcraft.

You may have known these bits of trivia but if not then you now do!
So do you have lefties in your family?

Thanks for reading this very short post!!

  1. My husband writes left handed, but does everything else right handed. Three of our grandsons are left handed! (That's three out of six!)

  2. My husband is left handed also. He is also right brained. We approach problem solving completely differently, which can be annoying, enlightening and humorous.

  3. I did not know that. I have a grandson who is lefthanded... have no idea where it came from. Don't have another person in the family that is.

  4. My hubby and my son are lefties. Our 3 daughters and myself are righties!

  5. Because Dad and R are left handed, and you, me and S are right handed, I thought for the longest time that all boys were left handed and all girls were right handed!

  6. My mother, and some of our "grands", are lefties!

I knew that being left-handed was thought an "abomination" of some sort! LOL. One of those, anything-which-looks-different-is-to-be-stamped-out things. Horrible things they did to children, to make them stop using their naturally favored hand. :-(

Associated with witchcraft. Sure! People did not know what witchcraft really was. Sooooo... Typically they feared it. And if it was unknown and feared, it was BADDD.

They didn't know why, some favored left hand. So they feared it. And it had to be stamped out, as BADDDD...

It's a wonder, mankind survived, isn't it? With all the ignorance!

And... Ignorance continues, to this day! Which is even more troublesome. -sigh-

  8. My husband and one nephew are lefties. I wished my husband a belated lefthanders day today. He said every day should be that holiday.

  10. Well I did not know, and missed the holiday. I am left handed! One of my aunts was left handed and grew up back in the days when left handed people were thought of as being inferior. She would get upset if anyone picked at her about being a leftie. I've enjoyed being left handed.

  11. Yes I have grand daughters that are lefties. Their Father is a lefty. It was hard for me to teach them penmanship and how to do some crafts because of it.
I learned to sit all the lefties together and the righties together and not next to each other at the supper table:)
