My Walk and some baking

There's still some icy spots on the path by the lake but I walked carefully and didn't slip.  No water fowl to be seen which is not surprising since the lake is mostly covered with a thin coat of ice. The temperature is plus 5 C so melting is happening..

I did see some Robins and a pair of  Doves which we are quite certain are Eurasion Collared Doves, not Mourning Doves as we previously believed.  I love to hear them cooing and missed hearing them for the past month or two.

DH's brother is visiting from another province. Those two can talk a storm!! My contribution consists mainly in providing food , which I don't mind at all.  Yesterday I made a dozen buns ( using the dough feature on my bread maker)  and a couple of Blueberry Platz which is just a Mennonite version of a fruity coffee cake.

Now the day is mine to do with as I choose. I love days like this. I hope you're having lovely days as well.

Thanks for popping by,   G.M.

  6. Dear Granny,

I'm always interested in weather! Fine to see the photos! Here we have now some cold nights and sunny days, and just a little bit of snow for dreaming :)

When it's cold, it's important to eat strong and warm meal. I see you make your guests strong, warm and happy!

Many greetings from the Bavarian forest from Dori

  7. I also love days when I can do whatever I please, but that doesn't happen very often! Lucky are those who get to enjoy your wonderful breads and desserts! I enjoyed seeing ten sweet little ducks on the pond today.

  8. Back in the days when we still ate bread, I too used the dough feature and made buns that looked just like yours. That brought back memories.

  10. That bread looks especially good to me. Today I took my tins of Christmas cookies out of the freezer so I could make a plate for the neighbor -- I hadn't wanted to do that for all the weeks I was ill -- and then I ate too many myself before I put them back. There's another friend I want to give some to, but I have to wait for that opportunity. They are still very tasty and not stale at all!

You know just how to take care of the menfolk visiting and talking :-)

  11. Some of our snow started melting today too. Hurrah! It was 38F and felt like spring. :-)
Your baking looks wonderful. I remember my Grandma making something similar but she never shared her recipe so when she passed, so did the recipe. So sad. There were a lot of family memories around it. I've tried other recipes, but none are the same as hers. It was a very dense cake and weighed a LOT when it was baked.
    Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  12. Your baking looks so good! I use to bake sometimes and put in the freezer, and take what we need. Now it is almost empty, so I think I have to have a baking day soon!

  14. It's so nice to bake when you have folks in the house who will eat it :) We also have doves here. We have at least one pair that live around the back of our house. I often see them together in our driveway in the morning, pecking around and making their sweet noise.

  15. Hi GM! Wow! They must be working up an appetite! Those baked goods look fantastic! No, don't go out skating on the ice!
I'm rearranging furniture today and I keep sitting down to take rests. I hope my mama is taking rests, too.
