A Bit of Garden Produce

We had a third day of sunshine!! I was outside pulling finished flowers  and cutting down others.
We didn't plant any potatoes but a volunteer did growing the midst of the Foxgloves and Daylilies. It got so big that DH pulled it out. It had an surprising number of potatoes underneath. The 2 bigger ones had a bit of scab but the smaller ones are perfect.

The strange tomato plant called Black Prince is producing well and one tomato actually was ripe. We think.

We're not sure exactly what colour it should be  but it was starting to split so we ate it and it was quite good. With a name like Black Prince I expected the ripe tomato to be black.

Finishing off this post with a couple of pictures of my oldest grandson beside some gorgeous lilies that grow by the building that he and his mom ( daughter, Sheila) live in.

Thanks for coming by.   G.M.

  1. What a handsome grandson. Does he and his mom live near you? I would love to have a place to grow potatoes. I love to roast golden potatoes with olive oil and rosemary. So good.
    Take care my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Good potatoes! I also like to prepare them with olive-oil and rosemary.Did I understand right, that they grew themselves?

You have still grown up grandchildren. What a blessing, that they life nearby! This grandson looks VERY likeable! You can be proud!

We also have some bowls with tomato-plants. This year is nor so hot as the last 2 years, they was like Sahara-climate, fine for me :), but dangerous for the trees in our forest. So we are thankful for every drop of rain. It's raining since May all 3 or four days. Our tomatoes stand under the roof, because they don't like water from the sky. We have flowers on this plants and some green fruits. My little granddaughter Lena has to wait:"They must get red!". Her first cherries, her first tomatoes, everything is beginning in her young life - - you know - -

  14. Your tomato plant is doing well. I grew Black Prince last year, and I think that was the colour of it. This year my tomatoes are so far behind. Some in the FB gardening group have already found blight on theirs. Between the pests (slugs, rabbits, deer, weavils, flea beetles) and the weather, it has been terrible for me and many others.

  15. Our first year on this farm we grew lots of tomato varieties, and the ones with names like Black or Purple were always dark ones like that, not supposed to turn red. We had trouble with them here, but hopefully yours will grow well. Handsome grandson!

  16. What a nice surprise to find the potatoes. I have never grown them before, but think they take up more space than I have to give them. I can hardly wait to be able to pick a ripe tomato. I have a few that are just starting to turn red. Your Black Prince looks like an heirloom variety.
Great photos of your grandson next to the lilies.
