Seeds

The week has flown by again. I did get the Christmas tree taken down and now the sunroom looks a little bare.

I asked DH to bring in my seed chest from the garden shed and I took a look at what seeds I had and what I'll need to buy. Last year some seeds were hard to find so I'm going to make sure I buy mine very soon. Last time I was in Walmart I saw they had their display out so I'll go this weekend. Years ago I would order my seeds from Stokes but now our back yard is so shady that it doesn't pay to order the few I need since I seem to recall that shipping was costly.  It was fun though to browse through the seed catalog with all the glorious colour pictures. Is anyone else thinking of seeds and planting?

Here's today's teacup. Those are strawberries on the teacup. It's hard to see them.

Thanks for your visit today,  GM

  1. Your strawberry teacup is perfect for this wonderful post. Yes, I am thinking about seeds and digging in the dirt, even though it will be a while before that happens. I do have several packages of seeds in the refrigerator. I am sad, though, that I seem to have lost all of my baby foxgloves. I love your seed chest!

  2. Happy Saturday! I really like your seed chest. I had thought of having a garden but I can't be outside in the heat and humidity here. I had forgotten until this summer just how bad it is. But, the previous owner did have a lot of things planted before we moved in.
I remember how hard it was to find seed last year from what people wrote. I would like to plant some green beans because I miss those.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. Around here seeds don't do well...too damp. They rot in the ground and don't produce.

  4. Hill is right: Your strawberry teacup is perfect for this wonderful post.

You are right to think about seeds now, though nature is still sleeping. But under the surface nature is slowly awaking now -

I've got three buckeltful sunflower-seeds, very old and dusty, Xaver got them from a friend. The chicken and birds do not like to eat this old seeds, so I decided to put a lot into a big maedow beside our house. I hope, that the meadow will flourish full of sunflowes in summer. Maybe my hope will be right :)

We still have a branch with lights in our room - maybe till Frbr. 2nd .....

  7. Seeds have actually lightly crossed my mind. I so wish I did not have to worry about skin cancer. I need to change my ways...but won't go into what I mean. From a kid on, I have always enjoyed going through seed and flower catalogs. Just so much fun.

    That is a pretty teacup.

  9. Looking at your seeds put a smile on my face. You are so organized and in such a pretty way. My seeds are all stuffed into an old plastic bucket that used to hold ice cream . . . not even close to as pretty as yours. This is the time of year to start planning for spring. I first thought about making my garden smaller this year and then I thought of one of my nieces that moved to take care of her mother-in-law and how I'm not sure if she has a place to garden now. She is only about three miles away, so I'm thinking that I could share my garden space with her if she would like . . . it would be good for both of us. I would have help and she would have produce.

  10. The tea cup is very pretty. I used to collect tea cups when we vacationed places. I still have some, but they're all boxed up in the basement. I no longer have a place to display them. Had a small rack once upon a time I used. Wonder if that too is in the basement or if I got rid of it. Can't say that I remember. I don't plant seeds. I don't do a veggie garden anymore and most of the bushes and plants have been planted to come up yearly so I buy a few annuals for the deck and that's about it.

  11. I'm sure Tom is already thinking about seeds, especially what tomato seeds to order
We have the same problem with too much shade now in our garden. We have eliminated many kinds of flowers and vegetables.

Pretty tea cup with the strawberries.

  13. I saved jalapeno seeds from a storebought pepper. Planted just three days ago and placed on a heatmat, one has already come up. My bell peppers haven't germinated yet however. Its a little early for me to start them, but I can put them in my coldframe if I need to as it gets closer to the last frost date. So fun!

  14. I really like your seed chest. Such a great idea. I picked up a few seeds already - they've been flying off the shelves during the pandemic and like you, I want to make sure to have them. Pretty tea cup.

  15. A couple of weeks ago I ordered seeds from three places. Now I need to get the greenhouse ready so I can plant some of them in February...

  16. Not now, but when I was younger I remember that was an activity in February. I loved to look in the seed catalogs, and went to the store to see if I could find those I wanted there. It was great to plan summer when it was still winter. To be honest, I often didn't success with mine seed and planting projects. But they gave me a lot of joy! Good luck with your plans, you are very good with plants!

  17. Yes ordering seeds is expensive but those packets in the store are so few seeds and sometimes outdated. I have seeds left from last year:)

  18. What a cute little seed chest. I have been looking at a few seed catalogs but probably won't order any. I usually pick up a pack or two at Walmart.

  19. I am dreaming garden dreams! I saved quite a few seeds last year to save money and to have seeds I wanted in case they were hard to come by again this year. I sure hope that they grow. I also buy my seeds locally because of the shipping costs. The catalog prices also tend to be higher. Love the strawberry teacup. Have a great week!
