Getting Ready for Spring

The weather cooperated and we had a work day yesterday. I say "we" but actually all I did was tell my faithful helpers what to do.  A job Youngest enjoys is power washing and he washed the front path and driveway.

Eldest cut all the old leaves off the hellebores in front then did some much needed raking.,

Then she helped me affix this Dollar Store branch onto my Gather sign on the front door....

...and hung this decoration from last year on the inside of the door.

In my last post I wrote that I was planning on making a Lemon Pudding Cake.  The recipe called for 3 eggs separated and when I broke the second egg I managed to get some yolk in the bowl containing the whites. As I'm sure you know, there's no use trying to get whites to whip properly with even a speck of yolk. I had to make a different recipe, one that called for 2 eggs....hence the lemon pie below.  DH and Youngest thought it was okay. Eldest and I did not :(

Today is a much less busy day. I picked up the books I requested at the library and I plan on doing a lot of reading on the weekend. Who knows? I might even be able to sit on the swing in the enclosed porch if the sun is shining.

Thank you for coming by

  3. Looks like a little rain later today and then a lot of rain coming the next 4 days. No outdoor walking for me, I guess.
It's great that you have such a helpful and willing crew. :-)

  4. It was so exciting to be gardening again. All the hellebores were blooming under last year's leaves; now that they're cleared away, a day of sun and they'll open up!

  8. Looks and sounds a good day yesterday.
Shame about the eggs and the change in recipe.

I visited the library and with rain forecast over the weekend I'm quite looking forward to sitting with a cup of tea and enjoying some reading.

    Sending my good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  10. Too bad about the pie.
So nice that you have all that help in the garden.
Won't be doing any work outside here yet for a while.

  13. Wonderful helpers. Isn't it frustrating when a bit of yolk makes it into the whites? Glad a few people enjoyed the alternative.

  15. I had also a baking problem with my applecake. I put it wrong (upside down) into the form and it ran away :(
    But the rest was delicious ;+;+;+;
You have true and great helpers. They love you and your friendly house and garden +*+*+*+*

  18. Oh how nice to be able to work outside! Maybe soon here. I have been getting out some Spring decor inside, at least.
Bummer about the eggs, but you're right, no sense going ahead with that recipe.

  19. Men LOVE to power wash. I think if you had 100 men in one room they would all tell you that. Nice you're getting things done. Come on Spring. I like lemon, but hubby doesn't so I wouldn't make the pie, but it sure looks good.

  20. So nice to have helpers isn't it? Oh I have done the same thing with eggs and baking. I finally got me one of those little things that keeps the yoke from the white. Life saver! Happy week to you dear GM. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  22. I know I don't have to tell you this, but you are so blessed to have some of your children close by who are so willing to help you when you need it. Both of our children live hour away from us and while they would be /and are (when they are here) willing to do whatever the distance prevents it from happening very often. I'm so happy for you!

Your spring decorations are very nice. Valentine's Day came and went, and I totally forgot about decorating the library table with my Valentine's Day post cards on their little tree...so on Saturday I made a point of getting out my St. Patrick's Day post cards and made a display on the library table. Do you still collect post cards?
