It seems my posts are only about flowers so for a change I thought I'd see how many of you remember these times.....
Remember when there were no seatbelts and car seats were not mandatory? I remember having whoever was the baby at the time on the seat beside me as I drove. Amazing that we all survived.
Remember Jello molds? My grown kids like to poke fun at some of the strange Jello "salads" I made. Some apparently one had grated carrots.
When my babies were in (cloth) diapers rubber pants were necessary. Moms now use disposable diapers and rubber pants no longer exist.
Who can forget Mr Rogers? I must admit when my children watched his program I watched right along with them. Remember Donkey Hodey? And Daniel Tiger? We could use more shows teaching children kindness and gentleness nowadays.
I'm sure I'll be back with more pictures of flowers next post. It's just fun to deviate once in a while.

I remember all of these things, but I'm pretty sure my mom or dad had me on their lap in the front seat. Can you imagine anyone doing that now?! And instead of Mr. Rogers, we were really into Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Green Jeans. (:

ReplyDeleteGrandma, even though we were in different places on the planet (countries), I remember all of that. We are survivors of it all. There were no washing machines, and washing cloth diapers in winter was a real ordeal. Do you remember when we started using seat belts in the car? More than once, I almost got out without having unbuckled it! I had forgotten about it and tried to get out!!!...hehe!
ReplyDeleteI remember all of these things. For our first baby we had a car "bed" that was in reality a piece of sturdy, padded cardboard that had two legs. It fit over the backseat of the car with the two legs behind the front seats. It basically turned the backseat into a bed. Every once in a while our son likes to remind us of how he probably would have died if we were ever in an accident! And we reminded him that that contraption was totally legal we only used it when we travelled from South Carolina to New York. I used cloth diapers for all three of my babies... rubber pants and all. We couldn't afford disposable diapers! Fun "back in time" post!

ReplyDeleteOh gosh granny, I remember all the things you mentioned. Way back when, I had a Brownie Troop and I would just pile all the kids into my station wagon to go on field trips. We always got there and back, safe and sound!

ReplyDeleteand six of us cousins going on holiday to Cromer in the grandmother's Mini Countryman (the one with the press button starter by the driver's seat, and 'magic wand' gear stick)... ah, those were the days...

ReplyDeleteThanks for the trip down memory lane! We had a "car bed" when our first one was born. The '59 truck that DH has restored was their family vehicle when they grew up so they were packed 5 in that small cab, winter and summer alike. And about the jello mold - after getting rid of mine a lifetime ago, I caved in and bought one at a thrift store and the grandkids thought it was the neatest (and fanciest) thing ever.

Cloth diapers and rubber pants [plastic, I'm sure.] I welcomed some of the innovations that our parents didn't have, but must every device now need a computerized component that either ceases to function or becomes obsolete? [Rhetorical question!]

Somehow it was better in our cars with the babies near on the hart or in the arm of a dear person. My granddaughters always cried so much in this prison situation nowadays. Much more cares are on the roads.

ReplyDeleteYes, Granny Marigold...the memories are not even dim😊 This was fun... However, of the things you mentioned what I miss the most is getting my film developed. I find digital prints wonderful and certainly makes blogging easier, but I miss dropping off and picking up with the anticipation of seeing the photos.

You're right about Mr. Rogers, I don't think there's anything out there to teach kindness now, just how to be politically correct.
