Flowers and A Full Moon

Irises are beginning to bloom.  These are tucked into a back corner out of sight. They were "extras" that I couldn't bear to throw out.

A bouquet for Mother's Day

 The May Full Moon

from the internet

May's full moon is a spring spectacular called the Flower Moon.

It's a little smaller and dimmer than you might expect - known as a micromoon.

You've probably heard of supermoons - big, bold full Moons that loom large because they're closer to Earth.

A micromoon is the exact opposite.

It happens when the Moon is at its farthest point from Earth, so it looks around 14% smaller and 30% less bright than a supermoon.

I hope your week is off to a good start.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. I'd never heard of a micromoon! Of course I had to look it up and to add to your interesting moon facts, a micromoon can be either a full OR new moon at apogee (the point at which the moon is the farthest from earth).

  3. I have never heard of a micro moon either - very interesting. I have always loved Irises. We had them in our backyard in Lubbock, so I chose them in my wedding bouquet. I hope you had a happy Mother's Day. (:

  4. When I saw your blog heading of teacups, I knew I had found a kindred spirit. I was cleaning my cupboard of teacups out yesterday because on Mother's Day as we were pulling them out for tea I realized it had become too jumbled. Blessings!

  8. I didn't know that about the moon, very interesting. My Iris are blooming as well, mine are the dark double purple; but they don't seem to be as plentiful as they were last year, not sure why. Maybe the squirrels etc have dug them up. After they're done blooming, I'll see about separating some and replanting in other areas. Pretty Mothers Day bouquet.

  17. I love it when the moon is in the right place to shine in my bedroom window. Something about falling to sleep under the glow of the moon makes the night seem cozy and warm :)

  18. I have those "throwaway irises" also, that I didn't want to throw away. Irises are so good at multiplying! In August this year I have a lot of dividing and organizing to do in my iris beds...

The Iris will flourish here in June, always about the birthday of my beloved wonderful old priest E.M. Kittelmann - this year will be his 75. birthday on June, 8th
