A Pillow and Jean Little

This morning it was off to the thrift store with another box of 'stuff'. Needless to say I went in and had a lovely browse around. I found a .50 pillowcase with pumpkins on it and also a rectangular pillow that was the right size to insert. Voila!!  My $2 Autumn pillow.

I also picked up this little (pun intended) book of a mere 100 pages by Jean Little. It's one of hers that I haven't read ( and I've tried to read every one of the 50some books she has written). If you're not familiar with this author here are a few things about her.

from the internet...

Jean Little, an award-winning author of children’s literature and two autobiographies, passed away at the age of 88 on April 6, 2020. Born with scarred corneas, she was declared legally blind and spent her life portraying characters who were faced with similar challenges. Little wrote more than 50 books and explored themes including physical and emotional challenges. Despite the sadness faced by many of her characters, she emphasized the resilience that can be found in children.
Little attended a regular school. “Jean was very bright,”   “She did not find the schoolwork overly challenging, but the children were cruel to her. They threw stones at her and chased her because she was different. She didn’t make any friends until she got to high school.”

 Thanks for visiting.

Far Side:  My new washer does not have a sanitize feature.

  2. Good deal on the pillow case and pillow.
I have never read any of her books or have even heard of her. How sad that the kids were cruel to her.

  3. Beautiful pillow and great deal, too! Is that a cat I see trying to hide beneath the pillow? :)

  6. Was a bit saddened reading about Jean Little. Love Autumn, Halloween has been big by tradition in my family for generations and, of course, I am growing my own pumpkin.

  9. Children can be little beasts to each other unless they are taught, I have found. Poor Jean Little. I'm glad you found one of her books for you collection.
I've never heard of a sanitise function on a washing machine; something else to look into! Did you usd it? Will you miss it?

    1. Nice to know that someone is familiar with Jean Little but seeing as she is a Canadian writer maybe that accounts for the fact that she is little known.

  13. Poor Jean. Children can be so cruel. Love your pillow for autumn. It's been a hot summer for sure. We didn't find any relief in our travels at all. We got home yesterday afternoon and it's still humid and icky here too. Blogger is still not cooperating for me and won't let me post but I plan to keep commenting on here and stay in touch with my friends. You can always email me at queenbetsy2@gmail.com if you would like to. My blogging days may have come to an end.
    Blessings and hugs,
