I started this post much earlier but life has a way of happening and now it's past 11 o'clock.
It's a beautiful sunny morning, unfortunately the last of a short stretch of mostly sunny days. I have been able to putter happily in the garden. Crocus are blooming as are my few snowdrops. The latter don't do so well in my garden. Maybe it's the soil, I don't really know.
I was careful not to overdo the bending and have so far escaped any back issues :)
I thought I'd answer some questions that I received after my post about The Comfort of Crows.
Karen wondered if I enjoyed the book.... I did. It really would be better to read the pertinent chapter as the year unfolded. ( The book is written as 52 chapters that follow the seasons).
Dianna wondered if the book expounded on different birds. .. To some extent the author did write about the birds she observed in her garden as well as all the changes that each week brought. It definitely was not boring but neither was it exciting. I know that's not very helpful, is it!!
Gretchen Joanna asked if I would change anything in my garden after reading the book. Actually I feel much better about the messy areas especially in the very back because they give protection to some birds and even mice. The problem is Kitty who patrols the area.
Lastly Faith wanted to know if I made my suet or bought it. I don't like the idea of rendering the animal fat. And, the truth is that I'm too lazy to bother. So I buy it.
If you're still here I thank you for coming by. I hope your Friday is ( or was, if that's the case) a very pleasant day. GM

Well I think it's a little unfair that you've got Crocus and Snowdrops blooming when we still have over a foot of snow!
ReplyDeleteI love ❤️ the squirrel illustration.
ReplyDeleteThe Comfort of Crows sounds like the type of book I would enjoy.
I got a late start posting today as well. Those were some good questions about the book. I found it in my library so I plan to borrow it soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for answering my question.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote and so true!!!
Thank you so much for answering my question. It truly was helpful and it sounds like a book that I want to get in my possession. :)
ReplyDeleteHi GM !! Enjoyed visiting today, hope all is well with you.
ReplyDeleteFlowers already! We are covered in more snow on top of the old snow which was on top of the ice and snow.
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed The Comfort of Crows a year or two ago. There is so much that goes on in one's garden if we only took the time and paid attention.
ReplyDeleteThanks Granny, it's been a good day here although going down below zero again tonight. At least it is February now as we head closer to Spring. Take good care. Love your posts. diane in northern wis
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely look put for 'The Comfort of Crows'. I like having a book to read through the year which follows the seasons.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your garden is full of little joys, even with the messy areas and Kitty on patrol. I’m curious, which bird visits most often or makes you smile the most? I just shared a new travel post, too, and I would love for you to take a look. I hope your weekend is filled with sunshine, crocus blooms, and peaceful puttering.
ReplyDeleteThat is a sweet squirrel meme ... but it would be tea for me :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I agree with the little squirrel! :-) February is an interesting month…still winter but with small signs of Spring coming…and a bit more light each evening…subtle changes, a delightful month.
ReplyDeleteI’m hoping you and yours have a very pleasant one!! xo, Virginia
Wise squirrel! I will listen to him tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteWe here in Bavareia still are surrounded by a closed blanket of snow, but February is showing his new inspiration in the growing light. We expect rain and the then there will begin a new saeson. I have to encourage myself to accept the new. I'm slowly and like old modus :)
that squirrel picture, my son would love that. You have rain & crocus....I'm rather jealous.. Icicles dangling and white everywhere, no grass. But that fat little robin I posted about...a sure sign ( I hope) spring is near.
