My Day

It was a pleasant day with mostly sunny skies. I puttered outside in the garden, pulling out chickweed that was already in bloom. I must keep the blooms from developing into seeds. I always have so much chickweed.

Later, sitting in the sunroom we watched the Bushtits at the suet. It hangs close to the window and we have a birds eye view.

I read my library book which is due tomorrow. I've enjoyed this book and I'm sorry to have to rush a bit to finish it.  I suppose I could renew it but there are at least 4 more books that I requested waiting for me.

I baked a cake . I forgot the half cup of oil that the recipe called for,  and the cake is rather dry but still very edible.  When I took the glass pan out of the oven and set it on the cooling rack it suddenly and very noisily exploded into many pieces. Fortunately they flew far and wide and NOT onto the cake!!  I've had that pan for a very long time and never expected this but I suppose eventually they break.

That was my day. Thanks for coming by!

  2. It happened to me with a glass container that usually went in the oven I don’t know why but it broke in big pieces. I love bird watching and we can do it when we take our meals. Here there are very small turtle doves some crows black headed ones and gray body and a kind of noisy birds I don’t know ?

  5. Sounds like a lovely day! I can’t wait until we can putter in the yard, but we’re a ways away from that here in Saskatchewan.

  7. We bought a third bird feeder yesterday and a mixed bird seed in hopes of attracting different birds to our backyard. And we also now have three suet feeders. We both enjoy watching the birds. I have a question about the book you showed. Does it expound on the different types of birds or is it a fun read? Curious minds would like to know. :)

I'm sure sorry to hear about the cake dish exploding when you took the cake out of the oven. I've heard that that very thing can happen, but so far, have not experienced it myself.

  8. That would have scared me to death! Putseying around my house is my favorite thing. Add a warm cake and its all the better. I suppose you could poke holes into it and add a glaze with lemon and 10X sugar. Ice cream on the side!

  9. It must have startled you when the pan broke. I've never heard of that happening before. I wonder what caused it. I'm glad you weren't hurt. You got a great photo of the birds. The book title sounds interesting. I'm going to look it up.

  10. I read a few reviews of that book, GM. It sounds like one you might have written :-) One person said her garden will be different now that she's read it, which made me wonder if you would change anything about yours after reading The Comfort of Crows?

  11. Exploding cake pans and chickweed, two things you could do without. Good books, cute birds, and cake, all good.

  12. I enjoy feeding our birds, do you make your own suet? I do both. They seem to prefer mine to store bought.

  13. I'm reading that book now!! It's for the book club next week. I think it's okay but not that great. Did you like it?
I've never had a dish break like that. Glad the cake wasn't ruined.
Lovely to see the birds at your feeder.

  14. Lovely to see the birds at the feeder.
So sorry your glass pan broke/exploded as it was on the cooling rack. Not fun and I guess you had to take care when clearing up all the pieces.
Your cake does look nice . . .

    All the best Jan

  16. It sounds like a very pleasant day that you had. Well, except for the pan breaking. You're the second person this week that I read that happened too. I'm sure glad it didn't hurt anyone or ruin the cake either.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  17. A good day! Sweet birds in your garden, first work with healing earth, first early flowers and always a good book as a friend together with some selfmade cake.

  18. The second photo of the birds is so lovely. Sorry about your glass pan. It never feels good to lose them. I hope you'll get or have a good one to take its place.
