I know many are still dealing with winter weather and snow but thoughts of Spring are surely in our minds. We are currently having colder nights that any so far this season but the only snow we've seen was a skiff one morning this week.
I got my little seed chest out of the garden shed and brought it onto the porch so I could take stock of what I need to buy ....which is mainly flowers because we have too much shade for vegetables to do well. I will grow beans again and choose the sunniest spot for them.
Eldest Daughter came for lunch and brought me a bloom from one of her hellebores ( along with a sweet painting of the same).
It's clear and sunny this morning. 0C when I first looked but now the temperature has risen slightly.
I have done a load of laundry that didn't get done on Monday. The plan for my day is....bake bread and make a pot of Black Bean soup with any other vegetables I find in the fridge. Also today I have to make up a grocery list based on what our local stores have on sale.
PS .......Did you have pancakes yesterday in honour of Pancake Tuesday? I made crepes and I paid attention to how I am able to swirl the batter around in spite of the weight of the cast iron pan.
I hardly lift it up, I just tilt it around and that seems to work just fine.
Thanks for coming by

I must be your kind of people, kindred spirits. ❤️🌱🌺🌿
ReplyDeleteHellebores are very pretty - I am not as familiar with them. I did not eat pancakes at all yesterday, I don't even remember what I ate. And I have given up on cool weather, I guess Austin has decided it is spring. (: That's OK - I love sitting in the sun.
ReplyDeleteThe painting is beautiful, so kind of your daughter! The illustrations are lovely. Since I love all the seasons, I am in no hurry for Spring, but of course when it comes I will embrace it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing.
Those are my kind of people too. It is 74 degrees F here...so spring like. I love not having to wear a coat when I went walking this morning.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote of 'gentle waiting'. So true.
ReplyDeletePancake Tuesday is not something we know about here, but my blog friend in France mentions it. Here it is Fat Tuesday, and of course Mardi Gras.
ReplyDeleteYour seed cabinet is fun and much nicer that how Tom keeps his seeds,
We did not have pancakes yesterday, but your crepes sound good!
ReplyDeleteI didn't have pancakes yesterday but did today! We have then often. The chirping birds this morning made me think of spring!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely day. I need to get ordering my seeds. I keep putting it off for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI forgot to make pancakes! Drat. Next year, I guess.
We have fresh snow so Spring seems far away:(
ReplyDeleteLovely flower and I love hearing about your baking! ☺️
ReplyDeleteIt's been so cold here, with cold rain turning to hail. But I hear the next storms are bringing warmer weather -- I hope so!
ReplyDeleteWe had pancakes at church Sunday, and Orthodox Lent begins this coming Sunday-Monday.
I also want to look at my seeds -- I hope to get some butternut squash starts going soon, so that I can set them out in the garden as early as possible. If I were to sow them directly in the ground they wouldn't have enough time to ripen.
I love your seed chest. Your daughter is so talented. Such a pretty flower and painting. Yes, there are thoughts of spring here as well...
ReplyDeleteLove the quotes on all the images! What beautiful gifts from your daughter. I enjoyed your post. I hope you enjoyed your bread and soup.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't have pancakes, but I wish I would have thought of it. We love breakfast for supper and it would have fit into the holiday. It was 66F here today and tomorrow we're supposed to get 3+ inches of snow. Crazy weather! Back into 60's again net week so we may still go camping. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteLove your first photo. That's me too!
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
On Fat Tuesday we had paczkis! We love them.
ReplyDeleteYup, definitely thinking of spring.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely painting!
ReplyDeleteFebruary really is a special month. The light tells a new story. Flowers want to wake up. I' sure, you will have a lovely blooming garden again, like around a house of an angel.
We had pancakes on Monday, I had no idea there was a Pancake Day.
ReplyDeleteThose are my kind of people too :)) Mr D has been weeding and pruning, getting ready for some new plants and taking care of the old ones.
ReplyDeleteI love your seed cabinet! I keep mine in a box intended for photos, but yours is much prettier.
ReplyDeleteI love your little seed chest! A perfect place for storing your packets of seeds.
ReplyDeleteThe Hellebores bloom your daughter brought you is so pretty. Mine is more cream colored with a hint of pink.
Your cheerful blog is one of my favorites- thank you for the time you take to encourage us all!
ReplyDelete... oh yes, roll on Spring.
ReplyDeleteI like your seed cabinet.
All the best Jan

I love how your post really captures the quiet joys of daily life—the little victories like tilting the cast iron pan just right for crepes, and the gentle planning for spring in your garden. That bloom from your eldest daughter is such a sweet touch, and it really shows the warmth of family in the small gestures. Your day sounds cozy, productive, and full of little delights.
