My Day

It's another lovely April  morning. We left the house at 8:30 for our morning walk around the lake.
The Eagles were sitting side by side on their favourite tree. We have seen one sitting on the nest but not very regularly. I wonder if they will succeed in raising a chick this year or not.

The ducks had obviously read the sign and were observing physical distancing.

 The goslings in this picture, taken last week....

...have grown a lot.  There are still seven of them. Unlike ducks the geese manage to raise almost 100% of their chicks. Ducks do far worse.  So far we haven't seen any baby ducklings at all.

Besides my walk the only other chore I've decided to do today is to wash another 16 of my tea cups. My  son lifted them down from the high shelf in the dining room last evening. I knew he wouldn't have time before leaving for work this morning  ( yes, he's still working) and the fact that the cups are on the table makes any procrastination unlikely. I imagine I'll ask him this evening to put them back. I no longer stand on chairs ( well, I'm not supposed to anyway).

Happy Easter

 Not much is happening that I could post about so I just went around the house and took pictures of yellow things. Yellow seems to be the colour of Spring.

The tea cup with Daffodils inside has no saucer. Someday I hope to find the matching one.

 This one has the Daffs on the outside of the cup and it also has the saucer!

I baked Paska buns instead of larger loaves.  They disappeared so fast I had to make a second batch.
The icing and the sprinkles on top are part of the tradition. My Mom made hers in tall tins which is how she remembered them from her own childhood.  I can't remember if the tins she used were empty Crisco tins or something else. Maybe my sisters will know.

I found a photo on the internet of how my mom's loaves looked!!  These have sprinkles but no icing. That would not be acceptable around here.We like our icing too much.

I wish everyone a very joyous Easter. I know it will be very different from usual and that's sad but hopefully soon our world will return to normal.

Miss Read

Some books are so comforting. In times of stress and upsets such as we are now living through I find solace in reading about simpler times. Gladys Taber is one of those kind of authors,  and also Dora Saint, better known as Miss Read.  She wrote about the things she held dear: the passing seasons, good friendships, village life.  Her main character is a teacher in a village school, much like the author was before her marriage.  On the anniversary of her death I thought I'd mention her. Maybe you're already familiar with her books. If so, let me know in a comment.

Dora Saint was born on April 17, 1913 and died on April 7, 2012... just ten days before her 99th birthday.

Sunday

 As we so often do we go walking at a different park than the one near us.  Hardly anyone out and about. A variety of waterfowl including a number of pairs of Wood Ducks. They are so pretty, especially the male.  ( pictures from the internet. I could get a good shot of them.)

I took a few photos as we walked....

...spied some painted rocks with encouraging words tucked into crotches in trees.

It's a lovely day here in B.C. and if the weather forecast is right then we can look forward to a relatively sunny week.  I'll be spending time outside ( instead of watching Hopalong Hollow  on You Tube).  Have you watched the latest one?  Posted April first and entitled Seeding, Weeding, and Birds.  She makes pea soup and chive and cheese biscuits. Definitely another fun video.

Yesterday

For various reasons yesterday was a hard day for me. I asked my DH if he'd take me to the nursery so I could buy myself some flowers to cheer myself up. We went to the early, seniors only, shopping and were practically the only ones in the store. First I chose this cheery bunch of Mums...

Then I bought some cute daffodils ( .99 each, who could resist?) and on the left in the wooden box are 2 parsley plants that will eventually be planted outside.

Next I chose a lavender, basil, carnation and a red geranium. In front from the left the first pot is a hot pepper, a pot of white daffodils just coming into bud a tiny rosemary and a tomato plant.  Apparently the tomatoes will be so dark maroon that they look black. Interesting!  By this time I was quite cheered up so we came home to wash our hands thoroughly and continue our day.

We got home from our walk this morning just in time to avoid getting pelted with hail.  Now I will make up for my lazy day yesterday and do some much needed dusting.
