Flowers, a Burnt House and a Small Accident

Good Morning, friends.  It's another lovely sunny day; I just came in from my walkabout seeing what needed doing, what was blooming, you know how it is.  We have to keep on top of things. I've decided to call this the year of the Foxglove ( I may have already posted this).  They are popping up in every possible spot. I think it was 2 years ago that I had next to none make it through the winter. They're making up for that now.

Photos by Shannon.....

The flamboyant Oriental Poppies are full of buds/blooms. (There's a sturdy piece of wire behind the poppies  holding a rose from encroaching.

The house down the street that burnt. The fire began in the part that used to be garage and had been closed in. A candle was determined to be the cause. The 2 occupants got out just fine.

For various reasons May was a difficult month for us and it ended in a difficult way when DH was hit in one of those awful traffic circles ( can you tell I detest them?). It was deemed  entirely the other fellow's fault, meanwhile our truck will be in the body shop a couple of weeks and we have a rental which I find hard to get into and especially...out of. One sits very low and that's a problem.

That's it for today. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Thanks for coming by and thanks also for all the kind comments.

  1. Who knew that getting in and out of a vehicle was going to become an aggravation? So many 'elderly' issues we never imagined! I'm glad your foxgloves are spreading; I've found a few varieties that truly are perennial and set seeds reliably.

  2. So sorry about the house fire! We had a house fire, and it takes a LONG time to recover from, even with good insurance.

  3. Are traffic circles the same as roundabouts in the UK? Our roads are full of tgem; we even have a couple where each road joining the roundabout is a little roundabout, and traffic goes in both directions round the central one...

  4. The garage had lent me a car some month ago and it was terrible to drive, get in and out! I was glad to have mine back 😂
This year I don’t have many foxgloves my husband my have been gardening … and did not know they were flowers!

  5. I hope you get your car soon!

  6. We have more foxgloves this year too. I am going to let them go to seed instead of cutting them off. Since they are biennials it will be two years before they bloom.
A big reason we changed cars was because of getting in and out.

  8. What a shock for you, so glad there was not a serious accident, though it is a nuisance having your car out of commission.

  9. So sorry to hear that May has been somewhat difficult and even more sorry to hear of your DH's collision. Even if it wasn't his fault, it still shakes a person up. I hope he wasn't injured! As always, your flowers are lovely!

  10. I enjoy early morning walkabouts too. But then I will usually go back out and to be out in the garden for the morning hours doing
anything that needs to be down that day before the day heats up.
You know I do not care one bit for those roundabouts, I sense they are an accident ready to happen. People seem to guess and assume they know what you are going to do. And they are becoming extremely popular? Whose idea I wonder?

  11. I love your flowers!
Oh, what a simple candle can make such a disaster!
I don't like traffic circles. I think, in 50 years people will laugh about such senseless things.

  12. Sorry to hear your husband was in an accident!! Hope he wasn't hurt. I'm not a fan of those round-a-bouts either, especially the little ones!!

  13. Beautiful, beautiful flowers in your garden. I'm so sorry about the accident. So many people don't know how to drive in the "roundabouts" as they call them in Washington where we used to live. We have one less than a block from our condo and other drivers do drive crazily in them. I know what you mean by low cars. That's why we had to get rid of our Honda Accord in 2010 and get our first CRV. I could get out of that low car anymore. Be safe.
    Blessings,

  14. I hate seeing that burned house — our house burned in 1969 and I know just how those people feel. You feel homeless and like an orphan and everybody feels sorrry for you and it is just wretched. Thankfully they weren’t hurt — that is the important thing. Don’t even get me started on those traffic roundabouts — this is TEXAS not the UK and people here have trouble driving on a straight street with the usual signage, never mind those silly things. We have one two blocks from us that has daily accidents. I don’t know who thought it would be a good idea to build those but they should have asked me! Your flowers are lovely! I might have to take to gardening.

  15. Oh, I hate those roundabouts, people really do not know how to use them and they aren't safe, as such. Love the iris pic above. Have a good weekend!

  17. I am sorry to hear about the accident. The powers that be are wanting to put a round-about at an intersection in my very small town. Most people here are not at all familiar with how to use one and I am wondering how that will go.

  18. I hope your husband was not hurt. Lots of people do not know how to drive in the round a bouts. That Foxglove is a beauty, when I had them in the wild gardens it was either a good year or terrible bad...feast or famine kind of plant!

  21. Foxglove is one of my most favorite flowers and yet, I seem to have problems getting them to over winter. Yours is beautiful...as all of your flowers. Glad the people where the house fire was are safe. SO sorry to hear about the accident...I don't care for those, what we refer to as round-abouts here, either. I'll go the long way around to avoid them. :) Glad no one was hurt.

  22. we really do have struggles don't we! I can imagine that the rental car is hard! I hope June is an easier month for you all!

  23. Oh, so sorry about the truck! And I hear you about that car. I love love love our van for that very reason, so easy to get in and out.
Sad about the neighbors. We don't ever burn candles any more. It's just too easy to forget them.
    Your flowers are gorgeous!

  24. I'm so sorry your husband was in an accident, but glad that he wasn't injured. And also that the house occupants made it out of the fire. Scary!
Yes, it's the year of the Foxglove around here, too. So very tall and plentiful everywhere.

  25. That is one thing I like about my car that is considered an SUV, but a small one: it's so much easier to get in and out of than the lower-slung models.
