It's Labour Day and most people are having a lovely long weekend. Labour Day or not I did laundry.
Thankfully it's cooler today and since Youngest Son has the day off he's coming over to do some much needed tidying in the garden. The Phlox are mostly finished blooming. That's one of the jobs I'm hoping he'll do ( cut them all down to the ground). I cut some stems that still had good blooms and put them in an old pitcher which I put outside. Phlox are lovely but they drop petals like crazy.
I don't make Beef Stew very often any more. It was always a big hit when I used to make it for the family, with dumplings on top!! It's one of those recipes that you make when there's just two of you and you eat it for days. But I'm making some today since it's cool enough for an oven supper. I bought beets yesterday and I'll roast them in the oven at the same time as the stew simmers away.
I haven't mentioned Gleaners for a while. They got a load of different vegetables and posted a photo which I've grabbed to show you how the excess vegetables arrive. Aren't they colourful? I'm so glad they are no longer destined for some compost bin. Instead the result will be dried soup mix for countries that need them badly.
That's it for today. Thanks for visiting.
Lovely illustrations. I love ❤️ root vegetables and beets are very nice. Happy 😊 September.
ReplyDeleteHappy Labour Day and Happy New Month of September.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I got laundry done today also as usual. It was a pretty day for hanging out the clothes.
ReplyDeleteBeef stew and roasted beets sounds like a great dinner!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the Gleaners are still doing that valuable work. God bless them (you).
I did laundry today too, squeezed it in among other things that turned into a busy day.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of peppers!
I love dumplings in gravy - as a vegetarian that's a cheat! but I don't care :) I would pick the meat out. Betty
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I do!! I think the browned meat gives so much flavour but I carefully pick out the meat. The Carnivore never minds.
DeleteGleaners is such a good idea.
ReplyDeleteLike your poster, my washing machine 'helps' with the laundry!
I must finish my cooking today and put it in the freezer then also do some laundry and do some craft this afternoon. Beef stew is very good and when you are two you can eat for a few days! I made macaroni cheese for this week adding some vegetables.
ReplyDeleteFunny- the same like you: I had cleaning-day on Monday, too, and my youngest son was working a lot by cutting branches in the garden! Welcome September!
ReplyDeleteSo good, that the tomatoes wil find their place in poor regions! God bless this work!
Always enjoyed Labor Day when I worked because it meant a day off !! Now, it's just another day for Mr D and I. Beef stew sounds so good, it's been a while since I made any. I love to make it in the fall, it's so good when it's cold outside. Happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThe stew sounds wonderful. We're having chicken fajitas on the grill tonight. The Gleaners do such important work. I'm glad that everything gets used and not thrown away anymore. It was really cool this morning for the first time this season. We have the fireplace going in the camper and it really feels good. Friends are coming out today to the campground to visit and another couple coming tomorrow night after they get off of work. Then it will be home on Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and hugs,
Betsy
I'm glad you're ready for September Granny Marigold!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice that the vegetables will be dried and used where they'll be useful!!
I did laundry yesterday too...my mom used to always say when we would complain about having to work on a day off from school for Labor Day, "Well, the day is called Labor Day and that's what we are going to do...labor!" :)
ReplyDeleteI need to give my flowerbeds some attention too.
That's so wonderful that Gleaners takes that produce and makes it into dry soup mix for countries without. What a blessing!
Labor day or not, I also did some laundry and housework. Nice that your son could come over to help.
ReplyDeleteStew or soup is best with all the Fall vegetables! Those are some really pretty peppers at Gleaners:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you enjoyed a busy Labor Day! Fun to have had your Son over...
ReplyDeleteHugs
