August

Another sunshine-filled day here. I did my usual morning walkabout looking to see what might need a bit of water to keep it alive. It's so very dry that I only spot water and even then I have to let some areas go.
I took pictures to remind me of what was blooming at this time.

Phlox are beginning to bloom.  I used to have only pink ones then I bought a white one and through the years the white have taken over.  I did buy a white/pink one last year and it is doing well.

Petunias in a container that gets water almost every day.

 Carnations in a container.

Double Snapdragons

Postman's Pride Sedum with a Summer Savory growing between them and behind that a self-seeded Foxglove.

Actually found by a Belgian postman in his garden, this outstanding selection produces a bushy mound of dark purple succulent leaves.

A bit of trivia for today.....

The first day of July here in B.C. was 16 hours 11 minutes long. The last day of the month was 15 hours 12 minutes. We lost one hour of daylight  and by the end of this new month we will have lost another hour and 37 minutes as we move toward the Autumn equinox which will occur on September 22.

  4. You still have some lovely colour in the garden. Mine is so dry now, but I have some pretty pink Salvias flowering.

  5. All your flowers look great. Too bad I couldn't send you some of our rain. We've had the wettest summer that I remember.

  6. I have tried fancy phlox over the years, but the only ones that persist are the old white and lavender one. They're good enough.

  7. Your flowers are just spectacular! What a green thumb you have! Isn't it a joy to walk around the look at things blooming! I miss that now that we're in a condo. I never knew that the daylight decreased by more than a minute a day. No wonder the darkness of fall and winter comes so fast and furious. Thank you for the very interesting info!

  8. I love the scent of phox, it's fabulous, not tried growing it. I can see the daylight decreasing and the light changing to something softer, there's an autumnal feel in the air in sunny Surrey, UK :)

  9. Very pretty flowers. White phlox is what grows in my garden, too. I've been noticing the shortened days already.

  10. Here we're heading toward spring, so the sun lasts one minute longer each day, making it darker later.
    Your flowers are very pretty.
