Another day of sunshine 30C 86F. I don't normally hang laundry out any more but the washer decided to be difficult this morning when I did a small load I didn't get done yesterday. DH is trying to figure out where the problem lies. Meanwhile I had sopping wet things that needed to be dried. The sunshine did a fine job.
We dropped off some boxes at the thrift store then stopped at a market to buy a few fresh vegetables and fruit also more of the $1.99 cherries that were advertised. It's enough for the two of us for the rest of the week.
Thank you for the comments left on my last post. There were a couple of questions I wanted to answer.
Regarding the flans I made. I realize that the name flan often refers to a custard dessert with a layer of caramel sauce on top. The ones I made are not like that. The pans I use are called flan pans for some reason so we call the resulting cake a flan. They are so easy to make that it's not even a recipe. I used a basic white cake mix for the base. Once they were baked and cooled I spread a vanilla pudding into the middle and covered that with strawberries that I had also cooked briefly and thickened.
The other question was about the doily under the bouquet of flowers. I picked that up at the thrift store for a mere dollar. I never learned to crochet and have enjoyed finding lovely crocheted items at thrift stores and garage sales. The work that goes into making one and then to see them sold for so little !!
That's my Tuesday so far. I better get the things in off the clothes line and see if I need to iron anything. Maybe sticking them in the dryer briefly will soften them after drying rather stiff in the sun.
Thanks for visiting.
That's too bad, hope you can find and fix the issue. I love the way everything smells after it has been line dried. Your flan-cake sounds so delicious! Yes, crochet and embroidered items do not get the price they are worth , but they are loved well. Enjoy your week. blessings, Kathleen
ReplyDeleteLove your closing graphic, it's so true!!!

ReplyDeleteYour fruits and vegetables look so good 👍
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely very good for the environment to buy from second-hand stores!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day Granny Marigold !!
I like the idea of doubling the fall recipe! :-) The flan both looked and sounds delicious. Your veggies look really tasty too. We've been eating out at least one meal a day since we got to Spokane. Everyone we meet with wants to go out to dinner.
ReplyDeleteTake care and stay cool. We're enjoying this low humidity out here in the west immensely. I dread heading back east in a few weeks.
Blessings,
Betsy
My mother used to buy ready-made sponge flan cases from the shops to create a fruit flan. Your recipe is a very cunning way to create a sweet treat!
ReplyDeleteThe produce looks wonderful. Our cucumbers haven't done much at all so far and seeing those that you picked up at the market made my mouth water.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the explanation about the flan. The ones that my daughter makes are the ones with a custard base. But yours still looked and sounded delicious.
I line dry clothes and love the smell of them. Not fun having to deal with a misbehaving washer!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the washer. I pick up doilies at the thrift store also.
ReplyDeleteI love your last quote I would double my subscription to fall too.
Cathy
I like to dry the clothes in the shade but outdoors. Good to read about the productive day!
ReplyDeleteGood vegetables, fine fruits! You two don't need so many things to be healthy, not hungry and happy! Hope your washer is okay now again!!
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoy the fresh produce and fruits of summer a few of them even from our own garden.
ReplyDeleteI've been in that situation of having to remove sopping wet clothes from a washing machine that stopped working in mid wash. Good they dried so nicely.
ReplyDeleteYour fruit and vegies look great. Just like your flan did! Well, Summer is almost 2/3rds done. I do love Spring and Fall the most! I just don't like when it gets dark so early, starting before we know it.
ReplyDeleteI have some doilies that my gramma crocheted. Fruits and veggies look good.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog
ReplyDeleteI guess i missed the flan post! Will have to back up and ready it because it sounds like a delicious summer dessert
ReplyDeleteNice produce haul. I have been buying those cherries too. They are so good for you, and just good!
Bummer about the washer. My dryer has been on the fritz all summer, but I have enjoyed hanging out the clothes. I dont have a clothesline any more because Larry backed into it with the tractor, but the deck rail works perfectly well. I have the part to fix the dryer but will keep hanging out the laundry for a while longer. They do get stiff, but I can air tumble them in the dryer to soften if I want.
I like the fresh produce of Summer too and am thankful my brother has a large garden:) Hope you get your washing machine fixed!
ReplyDeleteCrocheted pieces are so pretty. I have a tablecloth crocheted by my husband's grandmother that would have taken ages to finish. Oh, I'm not nearly ready to say goodbye to summer yet. We haven't had any excessive heat and I love all the flowers, being able to go barefoot, and sitting outside in the evenings. But I love fall, too.
ReplyDeleteHope the washer issue is soon resolved.
Always nice to be able to pick up some fresh veggies.
ReplyDeleteI love when I bring in clothes from the clothesline...nice.
ReplyDeletehugs
