A Trip to the Thrift Store

Another wet day. We walked anyway. If rain was going to keep us from walking we wouldn't walk often between now and next April or May. After we came back we headed for the thrift store. DH found some folks to chat with while I browsed. I was looking for (and found)  a King sized bed sheet in pale gray $4 .
It's in perfect condition too.  A few more items jumped into my cart.  The reindeer cushion cover is just the right size to fit over the cushion I had that had pumpkins on it. Having stuffed the Pumpkin one into it I might as well leave it as an early ( very early) Christmas decor.
I couldn't resist the pretty reusable bag for .75. I can always use another one. Magazines are so expensive if bought new but at 2 for a dollar who cares if they're not this year's latest.

Just in time for Halloween....

How widespread are superstitions around the “unlucky” number 13? More than 80 percent of high-rise buildings in the United States don’t have a 13th floor, and nearly all hotels, hospitals and airports avoid using the “cursed” number for rooms or boarding gates. Most airlines skip row 13 on planes, too.

That’s because an estimated 10 percent of the U.S. population and 14 percent of people in Britain have a legitimate fear of the number 13. (In Asia, 4 is considered the unluckiest number.)  No stats for Canada.

Thanks for visiting.

  1. I have called superstitions "STUPIDstitions" for a very long time, because they are fictitious! Black cats, for example, just to name one.
I don't believe at all in superstitions. But here in Montreal there are some buildings that have a 13th floor. However, practically every building that I know of avoids the number 13 in the individual apartments (such as residential buildings).
I was unaware about the airplanes. Thank you so much for sharing this.

  2. Nice finds!
I am not superstitious about the number 13, being one of a family of 13 siblings!

  3. That’s interesting about the number 13, thanks for the information. I’m not usually superstitious about things but I’m guessing many folks are. Great finds, you’re a good shopper! Have a happy day and stay warm on your walks. Best, Virginia

  6. You always find such nice things at the Thrift store. I'm not in the least superstitious about numbers or black cats. Yesterday I walked around the mall more than I would have because it was pouring rain outside.

  7. Nice haul from the thrift store. My grandfather owned his own business and consider Friday the 13th as a lucky day. I'm going with that LOL.

  8. I guess I don't have a #13 phobia. I hardly even notice, and I have not noticed a missing 13, probably because I am very seldom in a building high enough to have one.

  9. Fun things at the thrift store. I especially like the cushion cover. I'm not particularly superstitious but I know lots of people are.
    Blessings,

  10. You found some lovely things at the thrift store....like you, I stuff my pillows (with seasonal covers still on them) into other covers as otherwise I tend to forget where I stashed the pillow covers. I especially like the reindeer one that you found.

  11. My mother, a pagan, encouraged us to embrace 13 and considered it lucky. A superstitious family, we wouldn't cross on the stairs, cross knives, walk under ladders, change if we accidentally wore our clothing inside out, but would change if it was on back to front. Regarding thrift stores, ours are becoming disappointing in my area of the UK. Good linen is hard to find. But plenty of paperback books!

  12. Nice finds at the thrift store. I'm not superstitious. I always thought i silly not naming the 13th floor. It just makes the 14th the 13th.
So true about the rain and walking!! :)

  13. I'm not superstitious but I am a little stitious. I never say bless you for sneezes...sneezes are a good thing after all.

  14. In Canada or at least in London Ontario we don’t have a 13th floor in my building and it has to be 40 years old.
