Flowers and Muffins

It was another beautiful  day. I may have mentioned that I was looking for Poppy seeds. I wanted mixed colours but only found these red ones, which I sowed yesterday.

Walmart had a big display of different kinds of bulbs outside near the entrance. I looked at them every time I walked by hoping they would soon be marked down.  Finally they were. 50% off.  Eldest came by and helped put all 18 into a smallish area that I managed to clear of perennial Bleeding Heart and Lily of the Valley.    I'm hoping they make a lovely display in a couple of months.

Something happened and my picture shifted.  At least it didn't disappear.

This lovely bouquet was delivered to my door today thanks to one of my sons. You might think it would be  Coals to Newcastle  but I don't think I ever have too many flowers!!

(No doubt you are familiar with that term but just in case you are not it refers to bringing something to a person who already has an ample supply of that product.)

I did do a bit of baking this afternoon. DH brought in some rhubarb from our rather pathetic plants and there was enough to make Rhubarb Muffins. I used a recipe called Aunt Norma's Rhubarb Muffins.

That's it for today.  Thanks for visiting.

  1. The picture on the packet of red poppies looks just like the ones that my neighbor has growing profusely on his property. They re-seed themselves everywhere. He brought the seeds from a Greek island, and when my girls and I were on a Greek island last year we also saw them growing wild there. I'm hoping to get them to grow in my garden, too.

  6. Good old Walmart to have those mark - downs! You always have the prettiest flowers, inside and outside. That’s a great saying about gardeners…true!…and …always hopeful! I haven’t ever heard that saying, so now I know…I tend to say…’it’s like taking sand to the beach’😁 Yummy muffins! Happy weekend, Virginia

  7. Those muffins look yummy. Using your own home grown rhubarb always makes them taste better too. :-) I think it's so sweet that your kids bring you flowers for no reason at all, just because they love you. That is so wonderful.
    Blessings and love,

  9. Rhubarb is so sour, yet when you add sugar and mix it in something, it is wonderful. Is there a life lesson there?

  12. Lovely post and beautiful bouquet (and delicious looking muffins). It was so chilly today that I baked just to try to warm up the house but that was not enough so I turned on the furnace. I was hoping my rhubarb would be big enough by now to enjoy some Rhubarb Platz but it just hasn't grown enough yet. (So true about a gardener's definition of "relaxing"!)

  13. Like selling ice to the inuits, and sand to the Arabs. Although I believe the Arabs do buy sand, as their sand isn't so suitable for building with... but that's maybe a myth too...?
