We had quite the water problem last night. After supper dishes were done we left the kitchen as we usually do. About half an hour later I went down to get a glass of water from the fridge. Before I had a chance to take a sip there was a loud explosion under the kitchen sink and water began to gush out of that area with enough force to open the cupboard door!! Of course I screamed for help but DH, being rather deaf, didn't hear me but I was loud enough so second son came running. We got DH's attention and between the two of them they got the water turned off. The water filter which was mounted under the sink and through which all the cold water runs had literally exploded. Shards of it were strewn about. What a flood we had to cope with. The shop vac did a reasonable job but it's far from new ( and to my way of thinking it is far from effective). Today some of the wood floor is showing signs of "cupping" but hopefully that will settle down in a week or so. I'm just so very thankful that this didn't happen in the middle of the night when no one would have noticed.
It's a cooler day today. We made some jam.... 2 jars of cherry and 5 of strawberry rhubarb. That should do for our households for a while. I also washed the various bath towels I quickly gather up last night when trying to keep the water from going under the fridge and stove. I wasn't completely successful and at a later date we can move those appliances and wipe under them. For now that can wait.
Thanks for coming by and "hearing" my tale of woe.
Note to diane from northern wis: I hope your husband is doing well in recovering from open heart surgery. No doubt you're busy taking care of him.
Wow, what an ordeal! It's a good thing nobody was hurt. And thankfully your sons were able to turn off the water, that you were able to wipe up as much as you could with towels.
ReplyDeleteThat was a shocking and unexpected experience. I hope the damage is minimal.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you were able to get everything under control. Those kinds of messes are such a headache!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your water issues. That was a scary situation. The jams sounds delish!!
ReplyDeleteOh dear me! What a mess and what a surprise that must have been for you! As you say, it is such a good thing that it didn't explode in the night or when you were away! I'm sorry for all the mess that you have had to clean up and I sure hope your wood floor will return to "normal". Best wishes!

Oh, my! I bet you did cry out at the outburst of water and flooding. I'm glad you have your son there, who could help, and those who can help with the rest of the cleanup when the time comes. I don't know what I would have done -- call a neighbor, I guess...
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! What a mess. I am so sorry you had that to deal with, especially at bedtime.
ReplyDeleteCold water with mint is the perfect drink for hot weather. I really like it. It's very hot here today, but the weather will change again soon. It's cold and rainy all the time. I really dislike the heat. I feel terribly ill then. My favorite seasons are spring and autumn. I'm glad you had a wonderful weekend. I'm a bit crazy. Lots of work at home after returning from vacation. Very nice blog.
Moje ulubione pory roku to wiosna i jesień. Cieszę się że miałaś wspaniały weekend. Ja trochę zwariowany. Dużo roboty w domu po powrocie z wakacji. Bardzo przyjemny blog.
The two comments that I used the internet to translate were from a new friend from Poland whose name is Kasia Dudziak.
ReplyDeleteI did my best to post her comments as she wrote them but I obviously need to learn the right way. In any Welcome, Kasia💖

ReplyDeleteoh no link for your new visitor Kasia, perhaps she will post again.
ReplyDeleteDear GM, well that couldn't have been anywhere near fun. Caught it early or there would have been destruction to your flooring. Hoping it is shaping up for you with minimal damage.
ReplyDeleteIt happened to us with a filter that was not well screwed ! But during the night. I heard the explosion from upstairs and went down and cut the water. We still have one but it scares me now! Hope things settle down .
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible shock that must have been. Hope things will be better from now on.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you were in the kitchen when it happened.
