More Chit Chat

Where did the week go? I can't believe it's been 4 days since I last posted.  I'll blame it on feeling somewhat under the weather.
I don't think I've shown you the 2 quilted table toppers that I got at the thrift store last week. Perfect for Easter. I've already placed them on the tables.

We're still having days of mixed showers and sunshine.  So far it's been more showers than sunshine but hopefully April will bring more sunshine.  I sowed some lettuce indoors just to get an early start on that. I think it may be too soon for anything else just yet.  I'll be watching for onion sets to be available. They don't mind the cold.

I made an apple crisp.  It didn't take very long and it disappeared. We're both very fond of apple crisp.  It's fruit and oatmeal....so it's very healthy, right?

Here's another tea pot.  It's a Christmas one.  The words say May you be filled with the peace & beauty of the season and the love of family and friends.

Thanks for visiting,

Monday Chit Chat

I liked this cute picture of the little girl crying because it was Monday ( probably didn't want to go back to school. Spring break is over).  I actually I like Mondays in spite of the fact that it's laundry day and I have the usual battle with the washer. Again today it refused to give me any hot water. When we have to buy a new washer we will NOT be buying a Frigidaire  although I've been told that other brands also do crazy things. It's all computerized and therein lies the problem.

It's the second week of Spring and it seems warmer weather is here. This morning it was 10C (50F)

We walked in a light drizzle which has since stopped.   Robins were singing and we saw one with a beak full of nest-building material.

DIL got this shot of an Eagle stretching its wings. She has the patience to wait for good photos.
She also took the one of the Pied-billed Grebe.

Do you have any hints that make life simpler?  I found one this weekend when I was going to a grocery store where I'm not very familiar with store layout. I wanted to buy 2 items which were in their sale flyer so I cut the pictures out so I could show an employee just what I needed to find. Good thing I did because even she had a hard time finding them.  This worked so well I will do that in the future although many stores now have their flyers just on-line .
That's it for my chit chat. I hope your week is off to a good start.   GM

Thrifty Finds

The weather continues to be wet and rather dreary. I decided to go to the thrift store yesterday mainly to get out of the house for a while. I did find a few treasures. We use coasters often and I saw these pretty ones for a dollar.. We'll get a lot of use from them.

I never used to like this kind of hanger where someone has covered the wires with yarn but I've realized how useful they are when hanging slippery items.  Have you seen them in your thrift stores?

A while back I was given a wire mannequin about 4'' high. I found this smaller one and I plan on putting both of them out among my flowers once the weather turns pleasant.  It's not really crooked. I must have been holding the camera crooked.

One last item that I found was this lovely wintery tea pot.  I seem to have a thing for tea pots. They appeal to me and  I think I'll start showing my tea pots instead of teacups for a while.

Whatever your day holds I hope it's a good one.  G.M.

Reply to Happyone who wondered how long I've been collecting teacups. It must have started 10 or 15 years ago. I'm not too sure.

Mostly about Teacups

It's a rainy Monday and there's not a whole lot to blog about so I chose some pictures of my teacups. Feel free to skip them if they don't interest you. The first 3 I got last week I think it was. A dollar each at the thrift store. All the others I think I've shown at some time or other.

I hope you had a pleasant weekend and that the coming week will be a good one.

St. Patrick's Day and Houseplants

Do you do anything special to celebrate this day? It's granddaughter C's 19th birthday so that's what we are celebrating.

That shamrock rainbow and the pot of gold remind me of the beautiful rainbow we had yesterday around supper time. The weather was strange with sunshine and showers alternating so it was no surprise that we saw the rainbow. Today we're back to showers...no sunshine in the forecast.   The sky was clear enough in the evening that we could see the full moon. Apparently it's called the Worm moon.

The crocuses don't seem to mind the weather.

The tulips are the last bulbs to bloom in the mixed pot of bulbs that I got weeks ago. I've since been back to the garden shop and bought a variety of indoor ferns including another Rabbits Foot Fern and others. Don't the "rabbit's feet" look strange?

Thanks for taking time to visit. I appreciate your comments and would respond to every one if only there were more hours in a day. I do try to answer any questions though.

Reading and Baking

I've had a few days of lacking energy so I took life easy and read a number of books, 4 of which were mysteries by Charles Todd. This is actually a mother-and-son writing duo and they have written many murder mysteries taking place after WWI.  I know, it's not everyone's cup of tea but both DH and I  find them interesting.

I also read this one on the life of Beatrix Potter and watched again the movie Miss Potter.

A family photo includes her brother Bertram.

Today I woke up feeling a little more energetic and remembering the date  3:14  I thought I'd celebrate Pi day by making my DH's favourite pie which is cherry. My pie didn't turn out as pretty as this one from the internet but it will do.

Since the kitchen was a mess anyway I quickly mixed up some scones. They're so handy to have in the freezer for when someone comes by for tea.

Monday means laundry so I'm off to do what needs to be done. I hope your week is off to a great start.

(I couldn't resist including this off the internet,)    GM

Thrifty Finds

Recently I was browsing on Pinterest and I noticed that there were cupcake makers and recipes for savoury little muffins that people were also making in it.   I decided if I saw an inexpensive one at the thrift store I'd buy it and try it out. I did price this Babycakes model on Walmart's site and it goes for $136.79. I bought this one for less than $2.00 and it hardly looks used at all.

I'm still reading my way through my own books and this history of Narnia is what I'm reading now.
I found the Voyage of the Dawntreader in the childrens book dept. (.50) and the print is quite large which will make reading it much easier on my old eyes than the one I already own.  Looks like I'll be reading about Narnia for a while!

Today's teacups are Royal Albert Devonshirelace pattern. I also have the saucer that someone glued onto a glass candlestick (.25). I might even find a use for it someday.

 Thanks for visiting.  GM

Thursday Chit Chat

I found a couple of items at the thrift store, things I will put outside as soon as it warms up a little. We do have some sunny days in our forecast and I'm sure hoping....

When I saw this tall birdhouse I knew I had a great spot for it. It's hard to see but there's a little door near the bottom. I want to glue a tiny doorknob onto it before I put it outside ( under cover so it's protected from the weather).

I saw these herb markers made with Scrabble letters on Pinterest. They would be so easy to make. Now to find old Scrabble games.

A couple of old magazine covers from years ago. I find them appealing.

Something you may find interesting. DH came home from Gleaners yesterday and said they had two 40' shipping containers ready to send along for the needy. This time the soup mix is going to Guatemala.

A teacup that I may have shown before. As I've said before, by now I can't  remember which I've shown.

Thanks for coming by,  GM
