Reading and Baking

I've had a few days of lacking energy so I took life easy and read a number of books, 4 of which were mysteries by Charles Todd. This is actually a mother-and-son writing duo and they have written many murder mysteries taking place after WWI.  I know, it's not everyone's cup of tea but both DH and I  find them interesting.

I also read this one on the life of Beatrix Potter and watched again the movie Miss Potter.

A family photo includes her brother Bertram.

Today I woke up feeling a little more energetic and remembering the date  3:14  I thought I'd celebrate Pi day by making my DH's favourite pie which is cherry. My pie didn't turn out as pretty as this one from the internet but it will do.

Since the kitchen was a mess anyway I quickly mixed up some scones. They're so handy to have in the freezer for when someone comes by for tea.

Monday means laundry so I'm off to do what needs to be done. I hope your week is off to a great start.

(I couldn't resist including this off the internet,)    GM

  1. I do hope that you are feeling much better GM. On those kind of days it's best to simply stay in PJ'S and read or watch a movie isn't it? You must send me your recipe for scones. I have never made any! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. I have overripe bananas so I will be making banana bread instead of pie. It's a no pi day here.
Housecleaning is done and laundry is getting finished up. I'll have some down time this afternoon.

  4. I do a lot more reading these days than baking... I guess it's ok since I live alone and I couldn't eat a whole pie in a week!!

  7. First a big smiling because of the funny littel boy on the telefone! :))))))))

It is good having some rest, when energy says: Rest a little bit! Hope you feel healthy -

I can imagine, that the cherry-cake is marvellous -mmmmm!

Old pictures of old times, I often ask, how they managed their life without washing-machine etc.

Monday for me is cleaning the house - - - A lot of work, but necessary and later very fine :)

  8. I think your pie looks delicious. I wish I would have thought about it being pi day. I completely forgot. I got my laundy done today and another "meet & greet" with a new primary care provider this afternoon. The third in less than a year. I hope this one is a keeper. :-)
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  9. Hi Granny Marigold. That last picture is so true! You have certainly accomplished a lot of reading. Oh, how your goodies look so delicious. I have to eat gluten free so would have to decline if I was to be offered a piece. Hope your energy continues to be good. Nancy

  14. Ah those wonderfully filled scones...
your pastries are always so good... unfortunately we don't know the Pi day, I'll put it in the calendar... you have to celebrate the festivals as they come :-) The book about Beatrix Potter was certainly very interesting. I also saw the film.
I wish you a relaxing week. Viola sends you many kind regards.

  20. Murder mysteries aren't my cup of tea, but how nice both you and hubby enjoy the same types of books so you can share. Your pie looks yummy, and your scones even better. Cherry pie is my personal favorite, save me some. LOVED the meme about the computer stuff, it's precious.
