Plant Shopping

 Earlier in the week we went to the garden centre.   I found a few plants that I wanted, mainly Pansies which I transplanted into terra cotta pots and put out on plant stands since I don't have any empty spaces in my flower beds.  They still had mini Daffodils so I got 3 pots which I'll enjoy on the porch then plant them out where hopefully they will bloom next year.

 

 There's another plant stand in front of my garden shed.

 

 That's mainly what I've been up to. Our sunny weather seems to have moved on and we have showers almost every day.  It's chilly too. Perfect weather for some baking 💗

Flowers and A Full Moon

 Irises are beginning to bloom.  These are tucked into a back corner out of sight. They were "extras" that I couldn't bear to throw out.

May's full moon is a spring spectacular called the Flower Moon.

It's a little smaller and dimmer than you might expect - known as a micromoon.

You've probably heard of supermoons - big, bold full Moons that loom large because they're closer to Earth.

A micromoon is the exact opposite.

It happens when the Moon is at its farthest point from Earth, so it looks around 14% smaller and 30% less bright than a supermoon.

Wednesday Chit Chat

 

Not much to blog about today so I thought I'd see what pictures I might have that I (hopefully) haven't posted......

I sowed my pole beans in peat pots. 3 different kinds which I hope to keep track of, seeing which ones produce best. The first and second pictures were just 2 days apart. When beans start growing they really grow. 

 

The pink Spring Clematis that I believe is C. Montana. It did poorly last year but is doing better now.

Books and a very Expensive House

 

 

Good Morning.  Another week begins with the usual laundry. In between loads I'll see if I can get some reading done....out on the porch with another cup of coffee.

I'm reading three books these days.  The Miss Read is a recent Amazon purchase, the other 3 are from the library.

 I like to look at what's available on FB Marketplace ( where I found my rhubarb) and I came upon this house for sale. It has 11 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms....all for a mere  $1,899,999

When I posted about rhubarb a fellow blogger, Norma, commented that rhubarb leaves are a rich source of calcium. I believe she lives in Spain; her blog is very informative especially about nutrition. However, rhubarb leaves  that we know of are not edible and are in fact very toxic.  The stems, of course, are good to eat. I just wanted to clarify that.

Rhubarb

 

 

 

I saw that rhubarb was for sale on FB Marketplace so I ordered 10 lbs. There was a choice of grade A and grade B. I can't remember what we got last year ( we;ve bought rhubarb at that farm before) so I asked for 5 lbs of each.  Now I see that there's very little difference. I washed it and DH chopped it. We ended up with 7 bags 4 cups of rhubarb in each bag.  Along with what our small patch produces we will have enough for the coming year.

 

On the way home we stopped at a garage sale where I found this set of mixing bowls in such lively colours. Aside from their looks they are a type of  Melamine I think. In any case, they're not as heavy as my ceramic (?) ones.  I also got 2 more muffin pans for .50 each. I already had one. I like these bigger ones although for cupcakes I use my regular 12 hole ones.

That's my Saturday so far. The sun that was hidden all morning has now appeared and I'm on my way out!!

May Day, Geese, and Fridge Wraps

 

 

This new month has arrived with summer-like temperatures. I can hardly believe how lovely it is..
Years ago when my girls were in elementary school May Day was celebrated with a May pole. By the time the boys were that age it was no longer a thing.  Sheila sent me this picture. Obviously she remembers those days.
 

 We skipped walking this morning because we had the weekly shopping to do and a doctor's appointment. ( Just a routine appt.  Seems when you get to a certain age you need to be seen by your doctor every year or even more often!)

We did walk yesterday and although we still haven't seen the ducklings we found 2 goose families just waking up to a new day.

 

  On a totally different subject....I have been seeing different fridge wraps on Pinterest. I didn't even know that they existed but they do.  How about being greeted by a cow when you come into the kitchen in the morning?  Or maybe something a little less in-your-face.

 

 This last one is just so out of place  If forced to choose one what I think I'd have to choose the second one in muted shades. More restful.
