Hoosier Cabinets

I remember when I was growing up we didn't have built-in cupboards for the first years in our farmhouse. My Mother had a kind of Hoosier cupboard. I remember it well. If you are not interested in that type of kitchen furniture you'll probably find this post very boring. So...what is a Hoosier cabinet?
The internet says it better than I can....

The Hoosier cabinet was a 20th century kitchen icon.
First built in 1898 they quickly became popular.

With its deep drawers, built-in spice racks, and ample shelving, a Hoosier cabinet is a natural fit for pantry storage. You can store everything from dry goods like flour, sugar, and pasta to smaller items like spices and baking essentials. The pull-out work surface can serve as extra prep space in smaller kitchens.

I like this one with the touches of red.Is that a breadbox on the left?

Imagine those prices!

I like this one although it lacks the pull-out work surface.

Here's another one with touches of red.

Very imposing one!!  More of a display cabinet than a practical work space.

This one has a nice tamboor door.

This 1930's  narrow Hoosier was less common.

Wow! A kitchen that certainly would wake you up when you turned on the light early in the morning.

If you're still here I hope you liked the peek at some old time kitchen cabinets. My day was so uneventful and quiet that I had nothing to write about and that's when I resort to this kind of post.
 I'll be back...

Full Moon

By now you know I like to keep up to date with the full moon(s) and to share them here.
This is the latest on June's full moon. I hope you get to see it.

The information below is from the internet...

Mark your calendars! The Strawberry Moon is coming, and this isn't just any ordinary full moon - it's going to be the lowest moon in the sky in 18.6 years and won't hang this low again until 2043!
When to watch: June 11, 2025 at 7:44 GMT (peak illumination), but best viewing is on June 10th evening when it rises at your local sunset time. Check your local moonrise time for the exact moment!
The name comes from Native American tribes marking strawberry harvest season. Don't miss this rare celestial spectacle.

The temperature today is cooler. I took advantage of the coolness of the morning and after our walk I watered some thirsty plants in the front garden. Tonight I'll see what needs watering in the back.  I had help while I worked. Did you spot her?

Thanks for visiting.

Monday Chit Chat

Monday morning and the sun is shiningđź’—.  Laundry is well under way and I've been outside pulling some weeds and getting other such jobs done. Not that they're ever Done.  Yesterday was very hot at 32C which is about 90F. Too warm for comfort especially since we don't have central A/C.
Mustn't complain. My DH tells me that this is what I was waiting for, wasn't it? The answer is that I was indeed waiting for Spring and Summer but not necessarily for 30+ temps.

This must be pantry moth season because we see them almost daily. The sticky traps work well fortunately. I dread the thought of them getting into my pantry.

I did some baking knowing the hot weather was coming.  Muffins,  also made cherry jam (using  frozen cherries).

This area is one of the main blueberry growing areas in the province, maybe even the country. Blueberry farmers are getting rid of last years berries to free up freezer room for the new ones. We got a good deal on 20 lbs of berries @1.60 a lb.  That will do us for the coming year although we will get some later to enjoy fresh.

I'm sure by now both the washer and dry are ready for me to deal with.I better get going.

I did want to reassure those who hoped DH was okay after the traffic circle accident. He's fine and the truck will also be fine once the crunched panel has been replaced. It shouldn't take more than 10 days
(hopefully.)

Flowers, a Burnt House and a Small Accident

Good Morning, friends.  It's another lovely sunny day; I just came in from my walkabout seeing what needed doing, what was blooming, you know how it is.  We have to keep on top of things. I've decided to call this the year of the Foxglove ( I may have already posted this).  They are popping up in every possible spot. I think it was 2 years ago that I had next to none make it through the winter. They're making up for that now.

Photos by Shannon.....

The flamboyant Oriental Poppies are full of buds/blooms. (There's a sturdy piece of wire behind the poppies  holding a rose from encroaching.

The house down the street that burnt. The fire began in the part that used to be garage and had been closed in. A candle was determined to be the cause. The 2 occupants got out just fine.

For various reasons May was a difficult month for us and it ended in a difficult way when DH was hit in one of those awful traffic circles ( can you tell I detest them?). It was deemed  entirely the other fellow's fault, meanwhile our truck will be in the body shop a couple of weeks and we have a rental which I find hard to get into and especially...out of. One sits very low and that's a problem.

That's it for today. I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Thanks for coming by and thanks also for all the kind comments.

Tuesday Trivia

Is your week off to a good start?  Here the sun is shining and no rain is in the forecast.  We did have rain on Saturday, I think it was, and our sandy soil does dry out fast.  I watered some of my many pots outside, the ones that didn't get rained on.
Shannon ( Eldest) came over and while she was here took pictures with her phone. It takes such great pictures that I'll post a few today and the rest tomorrow.
This Clematis is doing so well.  I have 2 more of this variety and they are not nearly as full of blooms as this one.

Campanula Glomerata,  if I'm correct. Quite a spreader!!!

 My one and only Peony.

A little later.......Grandson M came up to tell me that a house on the street over is on fire. Needless to say we went to see. If it had to be any house I'm glad it was that one. It was in bad condition. He took pictures but hasn't sent them over to me yet.

That's it for today. Thanks for coming by.
