Books and a Puzzle

After a day of heavy rain we're enjoying a break in the weather.  9C with some clouds but no rain in the immediate forecast.

I often read more than one book at a time. Here are my current choices.  A Year in Nature is an almanac which I've begun reading for the month of November ( I just picked up this book from the library yesterday)..I'll see how far I get in the 3 weeks I'll have it ( or I may renew it then). The author is Marty Crump.  Shadow of the Solstice is a mystery, and The West Country is a Garden ( my own book) is full of beautiful paintings of wildflowers and sketches of buildings and places that she has traveled to in the UK. It's a wonderful book that I treasure.

We finished another puzzle. We each work on half and as you can see once we were done we didn't bother actually connecting the two halves. It was a great puzzle to work on with lots and lots of detail.

That's all for today.  I hope you have a lovely weekend.   Thanks for coming by.

  1. What a fine winter-puzzle! It is not wrong to read two books in one time! I do the same, but very very slowly, just a few sentences during a day because of my work with the sheep in this more and more dark time in the year.

  2. I am usually one book at a time. We are in for some rain and then some cold weather next week. There has been snow further north of us.

  3. You are brilliant to read a couple of books at once…good for you! Puzzles are so fun and entertaining, especially if the weather outside is frightful. That’s a most lovely wish, so dear! I wish many blessings to you and yours and happy weekend, Virginia

  4. I read only non fiction, and one book at a time. Your puzzle is beautiful and looks like so much fun!

  5. Love the quote at the end. I actually received an autumn apron for my birthday with that same quote on it. Your books sound so interesting...except for the mystery. If it's scary I'm not a fan. :) Have a great weekend, my friend.

  6. The cover of the Solstice book, and the title, appeal to me -- so maybe I should look into it!

  7. It's almost puzzle time at our house. We wait till the first snow fall. :). Happy reading. I usually have a couple books going at the same time too.

  8. One book at a time for me, but I do spend quite a bit of time reading the newspaper each day, and blogs, of course.

  12. Your book selections all appeal to me, as does the puzzle. I do read more than one book at once, too. Some books are meant for dipping in and out of.

  13. I rarely read more than 1 book at a time; but did recently because I couldn't get into book #1, and Book #2 showed up available in my Libby app. So, stop 1 and read 2, then went to one still not into and stopped again when book 3 was available. Very colorful puzzle, but I'm curious why didn't you hook it together to see the whole picture? I have a good friend who's really into puzzles and she and a friend or her sister will all work on the whole thing. Each on a side, then switching periodically because people with new eyes see pieces perhaps missed earlier. Love your saying about blessings out numbering the fall leaves. I mowed the other day in part to mow and in part to mulch the leaves, and looking out now; you can't tell I had it all cleaned up. So guess it will need to be done again, but not today. I've been visiting everyone on my blog list in order to catch up; as I've been away from blogging for too many months. It feels to get back into it.

  14. I can only read one book at a time ...
It's been a beautiful Autumn day in my part of the world today, so not too much reading done, instead it was nice to enjoy a colourful walk out and about.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

    All the best Jan

  18. I've got a puzzle sitting out right now that is Peanuts themed - so cute. I am almost done with "Between Two Kingdoms" which I highly recommend and then I need to get started on the next book club read. Joining two book clubs has really kept me on my toes with reading time. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed it.

  19. Puzzles are so much fun and truly make me thing of cozy winter days. That's the only time I think of doing them :) I just finished a very sweet book called "Tuesday's Socks by Alison Ragsdale and I'm now reading The Silver Ladies of Penny Lane by Dee MacDonald. They are both very feel good books.

  21. I often have a book on audio and a regular hard copy book going at the same time. I can listen to the audio while I knit/crochet.

  22. The books sounds interesting. My daughter also reads multiple books at a time...I can't do that. The puzzle is a nice one. You guys worked it up quickly.

  23. All those books interest me. I think i will order them soon. Thanks for the recommendations!
I just finished the first book I've read in several months. I kept starting them and getting quickly bored, but probably my mind was just too busy with other things to concentrate.
Puzzles. I love them, but I am so obsessive about them that I will sit up til morning doing one! So can't have them in the house, unfortunately.
