Craft Fair and Books

First Christmas craft sale of 2025.  Sheila came by after work and picked us up to go to a nearby church where it was held.  It was fun to browse but all we bought was some food items ( they looked irresistible).  We came back home and called those our supper :)

I feel badly for all the vendors that don't seem to be selling many of their great items.  Are people more cautious with their spending?  Or do we have more than we need or want as it is and no desire for more stuff no matter how pretty?

I had library books to return today and while I was there I picked some more.

That's it for today. Have a lovely Sunday.

Thanks for stopping by.

  1. I haven't been to any craft fairs for a few years. I saw about 4:30 that there was one in the small town I grew up in, that's not too far away. Unfortunately it closed at 5:00 so I completely missed it. I know I'm trying not to pick up anything new as I have enough. And if I do get something, I try to get rid of something.
I enjoyed seeing the photos of you both. You look great!
    Blessings,

  2. You are right about craft fairs. I admit that I rarely buy anything when I go to one, because I have enough. And there are so many of these fairs! It used to be that there was one or two, but now it seems like every church and organization has one.

  6. I hope things change for these creative sellers.
    Here in Greece,
demand has decreased due to the many cheap Chinese products.
The photo in front of the tree is very beautiful.
Be well and have a good time Granny Marigold!!!!

  7. Your day at the craft fair paints a picture so many folks recognize, where the beauty on the tables doesn’t always match the pace of the sales. There’s a quiet truth in wondering whether people are tightening their wallets or simply feeling full with what they already have. The way you folded it into a simple supper and a stop at the library gives the whole day a grounded, familiar warmth.

  8. I think we are all being much more careful about spending, sadly, as so many of the items at Fairs are lovely.

  9. I think it's both lack of funds for frivolous stuff and having too much to begin with. Enjoy your books and have a relaxing Sunday!

  10. I know that personally, I love to "just look" and admire the handicraft of talented individuals, and I know that must be frustrating for them. But I am so happy with having cleared out so much "stuff" at my house that I don't want to clutter it again. And at this point, I don't want to gift clutter to other people.

  11. I love looking at everything at Craft Fairs, but tend not to buy. I took a table at a fundraiser fair many years ago; by the time I had donated an item to the raffle (required) and paid the table fee it cost me more than I made in takings. So I do feel for the vendors.

  12. Like you, I enjoy going to craft sales for the outing and the ambience at Christmas time. I am always so impressed with the quality of crafts that are presented but I come home empty handed as we already have too much....I feel sorry for the vendors as they put in countless hours to fill their booths, quality products which might or might not sell. Thanks for posting pics of you and your DH.

  13. So many people are downsizing these days. Guess they don't want more stuff. I always feel bad for the people trying to sell things too.
It so much fun to browse around the library and pick up more books. Best thing they don't cost anything. :)

  14. I think you are right about buying at craft sales.
From the looks of your book selections I'd say you have Christmas on your mind. :-)

  15. I do like this time of year and visiting the many Christmas Craft Fayres that are held quite locally.
That 'cottage whimsy' meme is wonderful.

    All the best Jan

  16. Such a nice picture of you and your husband, GM. Glad you had that time out...and your supper sounds exactly what my husband and I would have done. :)

  17. It has been a couple of years since I've been to a church craft fair. You have some interesting book titles from the library. I enjoy reading Sue Monk Kidd. I think my favorite of hers is The Secret Life of Bees. Let us know what you think about The Book of Longings.
