Sunrise, Corn Fritters, and Apple Crisp

Another lovely day. Sunrise was at 5:03  after being stuck at 5:02 for 12 days.  The very earliest was on June 15th and 16th when sunrise was at 5:02:06; then on the 17th it began to rise a wee bit later so we now have reached 5:03.  I knew you'd be as interested in these facts because I am. lol

It's the season of strawberries, raspberries and cherries. Blueberries have also begun to show up at roadside stands.  DH stopped on the way home  to buy a basket of raspberries because he knows both I and Eldest have to have some when they're in season. I used to make raspberry jam but I no longer bother.

We found cherries at the grocery store. We did buy some but will wait until the price comes down to buy more.  They were delicious!

both pictures above and below are off the internet.

In the cool of the morning I made an apple crisp using this recipe...sort of.  It will be dessert for supper.

On the subject of supper....I intend to make corn fritters.  (I had to enlarge the picture quite a bit to make the ingredients easy to see.)   We'll have them with apple sauce ( which still has to be made).

If you're still reading then thank you for coming by.  I hope your day is a good one.  GM

  1. I'm sure I've never eaten a corn fritter, but the picture and the recipe make me want to try making them!

I've been buying blueberries, but I just eat them out of hand, they are so tidy -- and delicious!

  3. Oh boy, you have made me hungry! I love corn but unfortunately, I can no longer eat it. Strawberry season has passed in our area but they were delicious this year. I'm looking forward to some blueberry and blackberry cobblers.

  5. I've never had a corn fritter but I'd love to try one now after seeing them. Apple crisp is one of my favorites.
The earliest sunrise here was 5:48 and today it just went to 5:49.
My plants are just getting strawberries but I eat them before I can get enough of them to make anything! :)

Raspberries and cherries---such special treats. I have berries frozen, but need some sweet cherries. I can eat them til my lips are purple, lol!

  11. I love that you keep track of the sunrise! I'm curious...do you journal it? I think that would be a fun thing to do. All of your pictures are so pretty...and the cheesy corn fritters make me want to go to the kitchen and make some! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

  12. Hi there Granny Marigold. I don't know if they are officially called "red fruits" or "forest fruits," but that's what I call them too! 🤣 I absolutely love them. I had an unforgettable experience in England where I picked strawberries myself from a huge field. Afterwards, we sat down and ate them, and there was also a lovely café with other food right in the middle of the farm. It was such a wonderful day. I hope you had a lovely time as well and that the fruit was delicious.

  13. I love this season when the berries and cherries come. I've bought a few cherries and will wait until the prices come down to buy some to make preserves. I did find some discounted raspberries yesterday and made some jam.
The fritters look so delicious. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
