Happy St. Patrick's Day
It's a day to wear green and think Irish! Around here the St. Pat's celebration is overshadowed by the fact that it is my granddaughter's birthday. She turns 12 today and although she had her friends over for a party on the weekend today we will celebrate her as a family. Do you do anything special to mark the day?

Tea Cups
Only one garage sale this morning but I found three pretty tea cups and the price was right ( $5 for all three).
This is my favourite of the three. Beneath the saucer are the words Colclough bone china.
I didn't have a tea cup yet that had tulips on it so this is special!
This one has the words English Castle made in Staffordshire bone china and I think these flowers might be Asters.
I already had this tea cup ( well, not THIS one, obviously) but couldn't resist getting a second. It's Blossomtime by Royal Albert. Very Spring-y!!
After several absolutely gorgeous days ( when I spent most of time time outside!), today is rainy. My house needs vacuuming and I have baking to do. Company tonight spurs me to action!
Happy Weekend!

This and That
I tried again to post my pictures and some did post as they should but there were still a few that insisted on being side-ways. This one shows the area by my front door.
This is at the back of the house. I have been tidying up as much as I can.
My Daffodils in the back yard...
.
Lots of Crocuses. This is one of the pics that insisted on being on its side.
This pretty tea pot was brought home to me by my son, the one who manages the apartment/townhouse complex. People leave things they don't want in the lobby for anyone who wants them. Such a great way of recycling stuff.
At first I thought the tea pot might be Corelle but it has' Sadler, made in England' written underneath.
I just came back from the library and picked up two books I had requested. I did so strictly going by recommendations I had read on-line. I hope they will be as good as some thought.
One is The Gifts of Imperfection.. Let go of who you think you're supposed to be and Embrace who you are. Might be kind of late in life for this granny but we'll see. The second book is fiction. Tomorrow there will be Apricots by Jessica Soffer. Oh yes, the first book is by Brene Brown.
Our many days of sunshine seem to be at an end at least for now because it is currently raining. One thing I love about rain is sleeping to the sound of it on the skylight over my bed. So cozy.
I hope you are keeping nice and cozy too.

Random thoughts on a Monday
Our lovely weather continues. I've been tidying up the yard a bit at a time. I did take photos but for some unknown reason they appear sideways when I try to put them here on my blog. I wouldn't want to be responsible for any wry necks so I'll wait and see if I can figure things out before trying again.
Walked in the park again as usual except it looked rather spooky with about four feet of ground fog just hanging there. Not a breath of air disturbed it and people walking into it half disappeared.
The week ahead looks to be a quiet one for me. Then the next two weeks will be Spring break and the grandchildren will be in and out I'm sure. What does your week hold? Anything exciting?
Hope your week is a good one no matter what you do!

Haircut
I have worn my hair long and simply pulled back in a low ponytail for ever so long and was ready for a change. Being a person who makes up her mind then wants it done ASAP I asked my DIL if she'd cut them for me. I knew she'd be intimidated so I took my craft scissors and cut a long bit off to show her how short /long I wanted it. She proceeded to cut and in an effort to get the two sides the same my hair ended up a tad shorter than I had envisioned. Poor her. She kept saying she was sorry but yet another bit had to come off to equalize the sides. I found it quite amusing and made up my mind that short hair for summer is a great idea. Incidentally this is exactly how I wore my hair in elementary school except I had barrettes to keep it back. Hmmm. I wonder how I'd look wearing barrettes. ( just kidding).
So that's my new look!! Happy Tuesday, Granny Marigold

Thoughts on a Monday
We took a Sunday afternoon drive yesterday, out into the country with the destination a certain area that is well-known locally for the daffodils that thrive in the clay soil. People set up little roadside stands and sell bunches of daffs for $1.25 a bunch. I chose 2 bunches from different buckets and hoped they would turn out to be different kinds, which they were.
Here you can see how many have opened in just 24 hours. Of course I have my own daffodils in my own yard but I just can't get myself to cut them and bring them indoors. Unless they fall over which they do sometimes especially those grown in shade.
My 99 cent Primroses are still fairly nice. I think I'll give them another week and then plant them out.
After we got the Daffs we took backroads to get back home. The road had no shoulder and a fair number of vehicles so I had to settle for pics taken out of the car window. This tree in full bloom was just one of many that we drove by.
Then there was this farm with chickens in an outdoors run. They looked very content as well they should be when one considers the poor chickens that are confined and never see the light of day. We used to have half a dozen hens in our backyard but now local by-laws prohibit that particular joy.
Isn't this black rooster just so sleek? He was quite watchful and kept his eye on me as I took the photo. Protecting his harem I guess.
I kept wondering if we'd see any lambs and I was not disappointed. I couldn't get the picture I wanted and then my camera battery died so I only got two. One momma had triplets!!
On to other things... aren't the oranges just at their juiciest at this time of year? These huge ones have rather a thick peel but are so very sweet.
I've taken the various plants off my kitchen window sill and put back tea cups. The photo is too dark but you get the idea.
The sun is shining and the thermometer reads plus ten ( that's Celsius) so now that my laundry is done ( I'm a traditionalist and do laundry on Monday) I must go walk around outside and see how things are growing. I am so very aware of how fortunate we are here in the Fraser Valley to have mild winters and early Springs while the rest of the country battles freezing temps and so much snow.
With a thankful heart, Granny Marigold
