I have no pics of my thrifty purchases so instead I will show you what our cold and frozen lake looks like!! My DIL took this picture. She takes better ones than I and besides, I haven't been walking because the paths are still icy and I have no desire to take a tumble.
So I did go to the thrift store and found a nice pair of jeans, a top, 2 potato mashers , a pretty marmalade jar, a scarf and 4 magazines all for $4. Our very old potato masher fell apart and all we could find at the thrift store were plastic (?) ones. At .25 each we took them and will see how they do.
I noticed that there was a serious draft in the book/magazine area where I was browsing then I saw that a very large window was smashed to bits. When I went to pay I asked the woman behind the counter what had happened. She told me that a woman had accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the brake and jumped the curb, smashing into the window. Wouldn't that shock the daylights out of you if you were anywhere nearby!! It had happened quite recently. They hadn't had time to clean up the shards of glass.
I love to read your comments so please don't hesitate to leave one.

Yikes! That's scary!
ReplyDeleteYou found a lot of bargains, GM!
Wow! The lake looks gorgeous but cold! No, do not go out walking on the icy sidewalks. Stay home and safe.
Goodness, it does look very white for the west coast. I'm glad you're staying off the icy paths though. The same thing happened with my potato masher and I finally found a nice metal one at one of the dollar stores of all places. Stay warm.

Hi. Me again. I forgot to ask you if your hummingbirds were still coming around in this kind of weather. One wonders how their little bodies can survive the winter!

Hard to believe but when we take the feeder out in the morning the Hummingbird is waiting ( and spends the day guarding the feeder).About every hour or hour and a half we switch the now frozen feeder with a second one and so it goes all day!!
DeleteYou re quite the expert thrifty shopper.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got a good dose of winter! Stay warm:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great haul, some great bargains. I love the photo of the icy lake but am so glad we don't have it so cold here. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that is incredible you are having such terrible weather!
ReplyDeleteYou got some great bargains thrifting. That is quite a lot of stuff for $4.00. I buy my potato mashers at thrift stores too. You can usually find the good, old metal ones.
Ice and cold is why I'm exercising with videos at home! :)
ReplyDeleteQuite a thrift store haul. I'll be interested to see how well plastic potato mashers work! Stay safe!
You got a lot for four dollars! Glad you were not standing there when the car came through that window. It looks very cold there. Won't it feel good to be outside in the flowers and sunshine again?
ReplyDeleteJust keep checking, you will find the perfect masher! Wow about the window at the store. Yes that would have been a shock to be standing close by when that happened! I took a good (bad?) fall last week on an icy slope. After that I dug out some slip on crampon thingies and have been clumping around the block with them on ever since when we walk the dogs. I'm done with snow!
