My Day

This being Tuesday I went to look around at the thrift store. As usual I found some little treasures.
The cup and saucer have bluebells on them and look so sweet ( also they were half price so only $4), the other items were .50 each. The Christmas plate with cut out edges is hand painted.

These may look like saucers but they're actually deeper. My Mom would have called these "fruit nappies". Is anyone else familiar with that term?

We had a big box of very hard  nectarines given to us. I doubted they would  ripen properly but they are slowly softening a bit. For jam they are fine. DH sliced an orange and included that in the jam. It has a nice colour ( and hopefully, good taste).

With his help I made a dozen and a half Bran muffins and a recipe of cheese biscuits. In the next 2 hours a son, a daughter, and a granddaughter are coming by after work. Can't have them go away hungry now, can I?

While putting something away this morning I discovered some Autumn candles that I must have bought after Thanksgiving last year and tucked away. This one is called Heirloom Pumpkin, Caramel and Spice. It does smell lovely.

Hope you're having a good day!

Thanks for visiting,

This Brambly Hedge picture is especially for Henny Penny who is a big fan.

  1. Hello there, friend,

Your finds today are lovely...the cup and saucer are so delicate. I "thought" I knew what a fruit nappy was, but double checked to make certain. It would be a small bowl to serve fruit in.

Your jam, muffins and biscuits look SO good!

  4. What a lovely post, filled with great treasures and yummy food. I love that you bake when you know that your children are dropping in to visit. There is nothing quite as good as Mom's home cooking :)
I don't burn candle very often, but this time of the year is my favorite time to do it. The candles that they sell in Autumn are among my favorite smells and they make our homes so cozy when there is a chill in the air.
I think it is wonderful that you have taught your sons to pickle. We are new to canning and pickling, too. It has been something that my husband and I enjoying learning and doing together. That and it's wonderful to be able to make our garden feed us all winter, too :)
    God bless you.
    Connie :)

  6. I've never heard the term fruit nappie either, I like it! The jam and biscuits look so yummy, wish I had some for my morning coffee! I can bake biscuits but I've never made jam or jelly. Maybe I should try, there's a first time for everything.

  8. I'm familiar with 'fruit nappies', and in fact our cat eats out of one. I wandered around the thrift store on Monday for far too long and spent a whole $6, but I love it! You must have some good will power, with the baking you do, to stay the slim woman you are!

  11. Love that Brambly Hedge picture! Her work is so sweet and warm. Your jam jars are so pretty - that checkered top is happiness. I'd never heard of a fruit nappy, but sure enough, when I looked it up, your mom was right! Thanks for cheering me up this morning, GM.

  14. I haven't heard of fruit nappies, but those little saucer-bowls seem like they would be handy for various snacks and side dishes.

As is often the case, I come to your blog and leave hungry. So I will go now and find some breakfast :-)

  15. Your jam and your baking looks delicious. I am a friend Of Chris L.
I wrote you before. Her and I met on the computer many years ago. We still continue our friendship. She is a really lovely caring lady. So now I know busy ladies who bake. My mom used to make those cheese ones also. You gave me an idea. I was cleaning my cabinet out and I have some cups and saucers. I will put on My Imagination site. Nice to see what others show. I was going to add on followers but you dont have it up. I am really enjoying your blogs. Taking time to look though it. Have left comments for you.
