Morning Walk

The Eagles were up in their favourite tree this morning. You can just barely see them up there. I zoomed them closer.

Someone must have dropped off this unusual duck which could have come from a farm. It's very tame and hangs around the fence waiting for hand-outs. It looks like a Muscovy. The second photo is off the internet and I believe it looks similar.

I stopped to take a picture of our rather ratty looking little library. There are others around town that look a lot better but those are made of wood and as DH pointed out if this one were made of wood it would have burnt completely when the fire was set in it. There are just a few ashes left but someone has brought a number of books to replenish the choices.

It's a gray and dreary day here but at least it's not raining...yet. It's 6*C with no wind so a nice day for walking.

I hope you have a pleasant weekend.   G.M.

  1. We got in our short walk this morning, and this afternoon I am finishing my last batch of cookies. Of course that doesn't count the cookie cutter cookies, the gingerbread, the fatigmand, and the lefse that I'll be making with the grand kids next week.

  2. oh your baking goods always look so delicious!! My husband has been making Christmas cookies this past week and I will start mine next week. Then we put in tins and give to all our friends and relatives. This year it will be just the two of us home for Christmas. The virus is spiking in our county and our state of Washington, so we will just be dropping off cookie tins and gifts! This past week I have been making our Christmas cards and will get them addressed this week end and mail out on Monday. This past year has seemed so surreal, praying that soon we will get back to normal, although it may take a while like the 1918 pandemic. We just have to take care and be safe!! Wish the culprits who lit the fire in your library box would get caught. It is so pathetic that there are so many terrible things going on in our beautiful world, the terrorist protestors here in our USA who have destroyed so much in our cities, makes me appreciate we live out in the country on a river! The rains have come, I am hoping we will get come snow this year, so beautiful to be home, warm and safe, and look at snow out the windows!!Take care!Love your blog

  3. Your home must be filled with the wonderful smell of cookies baking. I can imagine how pleased the recipients of your tins of Christmas cookies will be.
I hope you get enough snow but not so much that you get snowed in. Thanks for coming by and leaving a comment.

  4. O you have fine eagles in your region!

I think the duck feels somehow alone. She needs a second duck?? She really is special! - -

Who has such a bad idea to burn a little library which just wants to make people send some books!! Thanks goodness its not completely burned out - -

  5. I hope that your little pocket library will be safe from another round of vandalism - so senseless and maddening! Wishing you a good weekend. Will you be celebrating W's birthday with your family?

  6. Your DH has a good point! I'm glad others are interested in replenishing the library too. The duck is cute and the eagles are always beautiful to me. I miss the ones that nested at the lake although I don't know if they're there in the winter too or not. I never investigated that.
    Take care.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Why would somebody set a fire in the little library? How sad. Glad you can salvage it. Hopefully no more fires.
    Good Grief.

  8. We had several muscovy that roamed our neighborhood when we lived in Newton. Interesting creatures (native to Mexico).... apparently someone in Newton raised a few and they got away at some point, but never returned because the person moved away. When I fed the geese that came to our house, there would sometimes be a muscovy. I had one follow me around the front yard while I planted flowers one year. He just quietly watched... I would talk tomhim and he'd do that quiet duck chatter once in a while. It was an interesting experience.

  9. It is a good idea to have this little communal Book Stand- must be a good variety of books for all ages. Cool days here this Summer at 70 Deg F...nights are colder- it is a good break from 100 Deg F. All the Best.

  10. So sad that there is mindless vandalism to something that should give pleasure. Such a joy to see the eagles.

  11. I thought the same thing about if the little library had been made of wood. It is a very gray day here, too...rained last night off and on.

  12. I think you're right on the duck, he looks just like the picture you found. So good to see new books in the library, hope the vandals won't come back. Merry Christmas

  13. The best time for me to see our Red-tailed Hawks is early morning when they are out and about looking for breakfast. I saw two yesterday morning.

  15. I'm feeling sorry for that duck! Looks like she is a female probably? If she's used company and free food, she may struggle. I wonder if she actually got lost/flew away from her farm. I bet she lays eggs. Glad the library is up and running again!
