Mainly about Flowers

Thank you for all the Thanksgiving wishes.  Now we're on to birthdays here with Youngest son's on the 17th and Eldest daughter on the 18th. They are exactly 12 years apart. In between those two are their three siblings. Those were busy years.

It was very chilly when we walked this morning. Only 1C  with a bit of frost on the truck windshield. The sky is totally clear and it 's going to be lovely outside by afternoon.

Years ago I put in some Autumn Crocus bulbs which never really did much. A few still come up every year. Usually they are flattened by rain but this year they've been able to hold themselves up.

Nasturtiums are still blooming unaffected by drought or cold temperatures.

This pink rose...Bonita if I remember correctly...has been blooming since late Spring.

Not content with outdoor blooms I treated myself to a lovely Gloxinia .  I hope I can keep it alive since Gloxinias are known to be fussy. I love the frilly purple blooms.

Also added this beauty whose name eludes me right now. These 2 bring the number of my houseplants to 39. I should have found one more for a nice even 40. There is no more room for pots on any surface in the sun room ☀️☀️☀️.

Have you found that there are more cob webs in corners no in Fall?

 Thanks for visiting

  1. Here in Montreal it is chilly as well! Yesterday was warm. Typical October weather. Happy Birthday to all who are celebrating! Your photos are beautiful, dear friend! And I love the illustrations! Snoopy made me smile and the spider one had me laughing.
My birthday is near the end of the month, I will be 69!
Thank you so much for sharing, such a lovely and heartwarming post!

  2. Your gloxinia and cycylamen are so lovely. I am impressed that you have that many houseplants - I have exactly 10 and I hardly remember to water them!

  6. I have the same issue with Autumn Crocus. By the time I notice that they are blooming they are flat on the ground.

  7. My that is cold! It's getting down here too, lowest was 7°C.
39 houseplants! I am amazed. I bring in the Christmas cactus and some aloe and begonia and geraniums but that's it. Then I struggle to keep them alive.

  11. Beautiful photos. We are just now enjoying some cooler mornings, but the afternoons are still scorchers in the 90s. We desperately need some rain!

  12. Lovely flowers and plants.

    Yes, Autumn brings spiders!!!
A friend of mine puts conkers around the house, she says conkers 'give off' a chemical that spiders will avoid, I don't know if this works? I've not tried it.

Happy birthday wishes to your children.

    All the best Jan

  14. Such a lot of colour still in your garden, its very pretty. Spiders don't really bother me but I don't like the webs across the pathways, yuk!

  15. Your flowers are beautiful. That rose is amazing! I've asked my husband if he would order some fall crocus bulbs. I didn't know there was such a thing until recently. They are so delicate. I have indeed found more cobwebs in the fall than other seasons. They are even attracted to my Thanksgiving/Christmas cacti.

  17. Es blüht noch so schön bei dir im Garten. Obwohl es schon so kalt ist. Mit den Colchicum habe ich auch Probleme. So richtig will sie nicht blühen und wenn sie blüht, dann gibt es Regen und sie kippt um. So viele Zimmerpflanzen. Die hätte ich auch gern, aber dafür fehlt mir der Platz.

  20. How pretty the Bonita rose is and such a stalwart bloomer. Roses still bloom here, too, but the flowers don't last as long. I'm not very good with houseplants, particularly blooming ones. There are definitely more spiders creeping indoors to find homes for the winter. I've found that peppermint oil keeps them away.

  21. So many beautiful flowers! I just bought a pot of lavender mums at Trader Joe's this afternoon. The temperature yesterday got to 80 degrees! I was surprised -- but it was much colder in the house.
