Thursday Chit Chat

It's a coolish day with a drizzle that isn't doing much good as yet. We skipped our morning walk and were at the grocery store right at 7 when it opened. After DH left I did some housework then went out to take care of Cinnamon Bun ( my bunny). Last week one morning when I went out there the door to her house was open and she was nowhere to be seen. Panic!!  Luckily she wasn't too far away and was easily picked up and put back safely. We couldn't figure out how the door got opened but that evening my son saw 2 raccoons in the back and it is possible that they jiggled the door enough so it came open. Fortunately raccoons don't eat bunnies. They are such curious creatures though and they do get into things.

While tidying up I was rearranging some really old magazines catalogs that I hadn't looked at for a long time. Needless to say instead of tidying them up I sat and looked at them.   I believe this catalog was from 1958.

Houses

Happy Tuesday morning...or afternoon, depending what time zone you are in.  It's a mostly cloudy day here. I worked outside after we got back from our walk. Came in 45 minutes later, vacuumed, put in a load of laundry and now it's 10:30 and I've done the "necessary" and can relax. We had a quiet and enjoyable weekend. Aside from doing quite a bit of walking we didn't do anything picture worthy. So... as we walked around the block I took pictures of the many houses that have been built in the last few years.   None of them appeal to me at all.  They look too boxy for my liking.  Here's a style of house I admire ( and pass by every day).

Here are the houses near us.  Do you like any of them?

This one is right next door to us.

The house below is not nearby.  It was in the paper recently for sale for over four million dollars. The price of housing has gone up unbelievably!!

This and That

We took a drive out into the country where a small meat shop makes what my carnivores think is the best sausage.  It's going to be a long weekend so BBQ's will be happening so having meat on hand is a good idea.  On the way we stopped at a couple of roadside farm stands to look at what was available but nothing appealed to me. It's hard to think of what to make in the way of meals when it's very hot.

Work has begun on the lot behind us and it sure creates dust!!  The plan is to build a 3 story building that will have medical offices.   It will  be huge and will dominate our view.

This is what it looks like right now.

Thanks for visiting. Have a lovely weekend,    GM

Full Moon, Zinnias, and Tomatoes

Another lovely day here.  July ended up with 29 days with no measurable precipitation. Also, from the first of the month to the last we lost 59 minutes of daylight.

Here's something else I find interesting....

The cosmos is offering up a double feature in August: a pair of supermoons culminating in a rare blue moon.

Catch the first show Tuesday evening as the full moon rises in the southeast, appearing slightly brighter and bigger than normal. That’s because it will be closer than usual, just 222,159 miles (357,530 kilometers) away, thus the supermoon label.

The moon will be even closer the night of Aug. 30 — a scant 222,043 miles (357,344 kilometers) distant. Because it’s the second full moon in the same month, it will be what’s called a blue moon.

On a totally different subject.....we got the first tomatoes of the season. The largest one weighed 421 grams.  Almost a pound.  A single slice covered my slice of toast and it was so sweet. The plant had a marker that said Early Girl but the other EGs that we planted don't look at all like that one.

All that sunshine has brought the zinnias into bloom. I used seed from last year's zinnias and I don't have the variety I had wanted. Guess I'll buy seeds again next Spring. Has anyone grown the Mexican variety? They look so bright and colourful.   I like the striped kind too. Always thinking ahead to next year.

 Thanks for coming by,

I hope you get to see the moon tonight

Another Walk

Some pictures of the beautiful park where we walked yesterday morning. All these pictures were taken by another walker, NOT me.   It's a little ways out of town and so quiet ( except for the noise of traffic on a nearby highway).

There's the beginning of a beaver dam visible from this bridge. Others have been lucky enough to see the beavers but so far we haven't been early enough I guess.

It was a quiet Sunday. There's a wildlife program I want to watch and maybe read until my eyes fall shut. Thanks for coming by,  GM

A Picture from the Past

16 years ago to be precise. Myself and my granddaughter who is now 20. Where has the time gone?
This was taken in Jasper, Alberta if I remember correctly.
