A Sweet Deal

Friday morning is my usual shopping day. I was in Save-on Foods looking around the Bulk department seeing if by chance they had the glaced fruit in yet. You know the kind I mean, over-sugared tiny cubes of fruit and  cherries. It only is available in the pre Christmas season and there have been years when I missed out. Not this year. I had decided I was going to buy enough for the next year and that's what I did... 12 containers should be about right. This is my favourite thing to put in scones, also  DH and I, my daughters and even a DIL love fruit cake. To make this an even sweeter deal :) , it was on sale and I saved $12 .

It's another wet and windy day out there. I am going to bake later then make pizza for supper ( trying always to use the oven for more than one thing to save hydro). I found a scone recipe that calls for cream cheese and since I have a block of it needing to be used very soon I'll try it. If it's a success I'll have to post the recipe.

I hope you're having a great day. Thanks for stopping by,

  2. We've had a couple of very windy days, one so bad they had to issue a wind warning. It sounded like a hurricane!

Great deal!! I love finding deals like that. I often shop on Friday too but had the opportunity to stay home today and putter and write and sort and fold, so I took it! Monday will be my shopping day instead.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. You listened to Christmas music? Before me? I didn't think anyone did that!!

  4. Wisdom! To look for seasonal items, early!

My husband likes Mincemeat Pie, so I do the same, with jars of Mincemeat.

and with faerie lights! I know one can get them yearlong, by shopping in some stores. But I do not GO SHOPPING. :-) So I look for them, at a hardware store, as soon as they put out their Christmas stuff. And stock up!!!

I can't be the only one. Because they "go like hotcakes" as the old saying goes!!!!

  5. How soon do you bake your fruit cake for Christmas? I remember Mom making it in fall and letting the Brandy steep - brings back alot of memories.

    1. I'm not making my fruit cake for a while yet but I love to make mom's icebox cookies and they use that fruit. ( The cookies that you make into a roll and freeze slicing off individual cookies to bake as needed. Do you make them too?)I eat those all year round.

  6. Do the fruits last a whole year? I made a very disastrous fruit cake one year. I wish I liked it because it's so English and it makes me think of my granny. Maybe I could tweak a recipe and leave out some tastes I don't like.
Your rainy weather has arrived, huh? What a great day to bake. I am eating pineapple cakes from Taiwan. Bill brought them home (a gift from our friend Yiping). Delish. They are sort of like a tiny little chewy pie.

    1. Yes, that fruit keeps almost forever. I used to store it in the fridge but then learned there was no need to do so. It's so sugary that it lasts.

  9. That's a lot of fruit! I always love being able to get a bargain.

It's hard to believe it's that time of year to start thinking of fruitcake. I start ours tomorrow. I make a 45 Day Fruitcake every year. It's a lot of work, but the end results we deem worthwhile.

    Blessings~

    1. We noticed very little difference in the scones made with cream cheese. I won't bother making that recipe again.

  12. Congrats on all the dried fruit! Every year I say I'm going to make one of my mom's fruitcakes, and every year I say, "No way! The pecans are too expensive!!" Some year I'll bite the bullet, because her recipe really is delicious! Have lots of baking fun!

  13. You asked how I lost the tooth?..... Just having a G/F bagel with decaf, sitting at my computer, in the morning.

But it was a tooth, which the former dentist, who messed up my teeth, had said; "Well I don't know how long this will last" So, now we know, how long it lasted.

But obviously, it was not in good 'shape.'

    -sigh-
