Solstice

                                              Happy first day of Winter

It really does look and feel like winter here. The snow is crunchy when you drive and although the main roads are clear the side streets are definitely not.
We went to do a few errands this afternoon. The car was encased in a very thick layer of frozen snow.
DH cleared off the windows and some of the hood but left the rest. As we drove and the car warmed up suddenly the layer that was on the top of the car came sliding down onto the windshield totally blocking our view. We were in an intersection and couldn't stop so DH just drove blindly until I could see out my side window that we could pull over. Whew! What a relief to know we hadn't hit anyone nor had anyone hit us.

Thanks for coming by today. I hope you're finding some time in the middle of all the bustle of preparations to sit quietly and think about the reason for the season.

  1. Yes I hate the darkness of winter. We have lots of snow so we could share. Minute by minute we will regain the light:)

  4. Glad all turned out well with the ice! I know I've heard tales of ice flying off of the tops of people's cars and crashing through the windshield of the car behind them. Yours went the other way! I try to brush mine off, but when it's really stuck what do you do? Pray, I guess! That's such a cute picture at the top of your post! Yay for longer days!

  5. So looking forward to the longer days. Scary with the snow, glad nothing awful happened! I've heard it said that you should always clear the snow off the roof, so make a point of doing that, for the exact reason of what happened to you. Same with the hood, I've heard stories of loosened snow sheets on the hood, blowing up onto the windshield. Bet DH will now always clear the snow off the roof ;-)

  6. Solstice is an important day for those of us with Nordic heritage. In fact, for people of the north lands, the solstice was the original reason for the season.

  7. Wish we were having winter weather here...supposed to be 80* today. But, cold front should be here in time for Christmas. That's the way it is where I live, many days we have the heat on in the mornings and the a/c on in the afternoons. It's crazy! Merry Christmas

  8. I'm looking very forward to longer days again . . . I seem to get less done when the nights come so early. We woke up this morning to snowflakes falling from the sky, they stopped about an hour ago but the ground is white and it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas:)
Here's wishing you a Very Merry Christmas!

  10. That snow sliding over the windshield is scary. Glad you didn't hit anything. We may have 70 degrees here tomorrow, and rain on Christmas Day.
