Strawberries and a giant Hosta

On his way home from his volunteer 'job'  DH stopped and bought strawberries. This box was 10 pounds. We froze some, I made  3 jars of jam ( plus a bit that will end up on tomorrow's toast).
I made waffles for supper with... you guessed it.. .strawberries! They were very tasty.
When my back feels better we'll go and pick our own which will save money but also, since we try to remove the hull as we pick there's a lot less work to do once we get them home. I know some say it's important to leave that part on but I've never noticed that it makes a difference.

My Mock Orange is past its prime now and petals are falling every day.  It grows in the back of the garden in what I call the wild area. Here I let the Welsh Poppies and other invasive flowers grow and flourish battling for space. One plant that doesn't have to battle at all is my very big old Hosta. No slug or snail has ever managed to chew on those thick leaves.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

         Thanks for coming by

  1. Hosta 'Elegans', with its blue gray seersucker leaves, is a great plant.
We had some fresh local strawberries last week at my sister's house. Wonderful. I'll have to find some locally. I'm not much into U-Pick after all of those years of working in the strawberry fields as a kid. And yes, we picked them with hulls off since they were going to the processing plant.

  2. Things are looking beautiful at your place . . . I love well established gardens. I will be so happy when mine has a few more years to develop. On the other hand I can certainly wait, I'm not going to spend anytime wishing my life away.
Those strawberries are amazing and your jam looks yummy. Waffles sound so good, too. Like I said, things are looking beautiful at your place, garden and delicious summer fresh food :)

  3. Wow, can you send me a piece of that gigantic hosta??? They don't grow that big here, that's for sure! They must love your climate. The strawberries look fabulous!

  4. I need to get some strawberries. Haven't had any of the local ones yet this year, and the season will be over before I know it!

    1. And after this rain we are supposedly getting hot sunshine which will certainly shorten the season.

  5. That's a gorgeous hosta! Hostas are a favorite of mine, and I love that misty green color.

  6. Does your Mock Orange have a nice scent? I planted one at either end of my patio so that I could be smelling them now as they are blooming but the scent is faint.
