This and That

My son took 3 minutes to 'fix' my camera. I had pressed the wrong button and he put my settings back to where they were. I'm so glad I have him to help with problems whether it's with the TV or camera or opening a jar of pickles!  I used to clean house for a woman who would line up jars and bottles that she'd need for the upcoming week so I could open them. Now I'm the one who needs help.

My Amaryllis is still doing well. It had a total of nine flowers but I've already had to cut 2 or 3 off because they were wilting.  Three more Amaryllis have buds and will probably bloom in a few weeks. I hope one of them is Minerva. I didn't mark which pot it was in. The other 2 will be Red Lions.

Walmart marked the Valentine chocolates down so I treated myself.

My eldest daughter found a couple to newel posts discarded by the dumpster. She gave one to me and kept the other one. DH made bases for both and on mine he topped the post with a stained and leaded glass 'thing' that I once bought at a garage sale and never knew what to do with. Now it has found the perfect spot.

Here it is on the porch where I want it to be. DH will fasten a hanger on one side and my daughter will make me a wooden sign that will hang on it and say something about Living on the Porch.

On my walk this morning I noticed that a big garbage container has been parked in front of this little house. No doubt it will be torn down and replaced by yet another huge house like the one next door to it.

I started this post before lunch and now it's almost time for supper. Not sure what I was doing all day but I kept busy.  I hope your day was a good one.

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. I appreciate every single one.

  2. Dear Granny Marigold,

    what fine flowers!

It is good, to have children, who do as good as yours. They are thankful for having such a mother!! How many children and grandchildren do you have?

The small house is nice, sorry for braking it down. But the big house beside is also fine. Funny roofs and architecture!

When you have forgotten the time, it is a sign, that you have spent your time "in the flow"! :)

Many greetings from Dori from the Bavarian Forest

  4. The amarillas are gorgeous, I love them. My sister-n-law had them planted down the side of her garage, she lived on a corner lot so they were visible for all to enjoy. They were always so pretty. It is great to have tech savvy son, we have one to those too. He works miracles when anything goes wrong with our tv, phones or computers. I love what you did with the newel post, looks great.

  5. Oh how I love those amaryllis....my mom loved them and the neighbor we had when we moved here always had one or two.

Do you know how many teacups you have? I sure would love to see them all. Note to self...enter teacup in the searchbar here and see what comes up! That is one thing I love but really resist collecting.

  6. WOW what a huge house! I would never want to clean something so big!!! Your amaryllis is so beautiful!!! I know the days just fly by and the hours! We do a lot in them but then think back and wonder what it all was. God bless you, you are a dear blog friend to me! (and I was so sorry to hear about the restaurant that closed that you mentioned on my blog, Lord have mercy!)

  7. It is sad to see the old neighbourhoods being torn down one house after the other.

  8. I"m glad your camera was fixed. Isn't it something how the kids can fix things so fast. It used to be us doing those things! I feel bad about the houses. I love older homes and feel they have so much more personality than the new ones. We've owned four houses. We had the one we're in now built in 2002 and it's okay, but a "cookie cutter" house. Pretty much like all of the others in our neighborhood. Our first house was built in 1898 and was one of a kind with leaded glass bookshelves and a swinging door between the kitchen and dining room. The dining room was paneled in sold oak. Real oak! It also had oak crown molding throughout the downstairs. I loved that house but it was in a not great part of town. We only paid $19,000 for it in 1978! Isn't that crazy?
Sorry, I didn't mean to go on and on about houses. I did love our first home and still miss it.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. I don't care for the big houses, how much house does a person need? I'd rather have land, and a small charming house filled with nooks and crannies, has character and history. I do so love your plant room, so cheerful (see, just what I was talking about), sunny and vibrant filled with living breathing green growing things...and your tea cup nook lovely. The newel post what a find, and I like the stained glass piece on top. How pretty.

  18. I don't think I've heard of a newel post before! Must have seen them, though, and not paid attention.

The amaryllis are wonderful!! I'm glad to see yours brightening up the house, because I don't know where I would put one. No doubt someone will give me one in the future and I'll find a place and be happy about it, but for now I have to guard myself every year against buying one for myself. ;-)

  19. "Not sure what I was doing all day, but I kept busy." THAT is my life exactly! I look back on a day and wonder what in the world I actually accomplished. It usually goes like this: painted two cards, took a nap, wanted to vacuum, did a load of laundry. Really? THAT took me all day?
It seems your area might be doing what they call "gentrifying" - when the old smaller houses are replaced by swanky, expensive homes. That happens in our area too.
Your new newel post is so cute! It will look great with a little sign hanging on it. Your porch is delightful.

  20. Your daughters post find reminds me of my post. My hubby painted it. One day neighbor friend was with me at our neighbors home. The home we were at had a post with a bird feeder and my friend said she wished she had one. So hubby and went to the store and purchased black metal Dec hooks simple to hanging basket brackets. Then I got a black post cap. Then I noticed clearance due to small dent bird feeder that had a pulley. So I called her and we drove down and put up the post and feeder she was happy...
