Happy Easter

Not much is happening that I could post about so I just went around the house and took pictures of yellow things. Yellow seems to be the colour of Spring.

The tea cup with Daffodils inside has no saucer. Someday I hope to find the matching one.

This one has the Daffs on the outside of the cup and it also has the saucer!

I baked Paska buns instead of larger loaves.  They disappeared so fast I had to make a second batch.
The icing and the sprinkles on top are part of the tradition. My Mom made hers in tall tins which is how she remembered them from her own childhood.  I can't remember if the tins she used were empty Crisco tins or something else. Maybe my sisters will know.

I found a photo on the internet of how my mom's loaves looked!!  These have sprinkles but no icing. That would not be acceptable around here.We like our icing too much.

I wish everyone a very joyous Easter. I know it will be very different from usual and that's sad but hopefully soon our world will return to normal.

  1. Beautiful yellow! I saw the first daffodil of the season here yesterday on my walk but it's supposed to be 26 tonight so I'm afraid it will be gone tomorrow. I'll have to come back here and look at yours. Spring is such a season of hope.
Wishing you a wonderful Easter my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  5. Oh yum! Unlike you, I have unfortunately not continued the tradition of making Paska which is too bad as I miss it. It brings back so many memories. Sorry to say I cannot remember what kind of tin cans Mom used to bake hers in. However, it is like you say - very important to have icing and sprinkles. My in-law's tradition is lemon cream cheese icing and, though it is tasty, it is not the same as how we grew up! Today will require an extra dose of positive thinking as it's sad not to be able to get together with family. Especially now in our isolation, we crave most what we hold dear. L.

  6. Your paska looks so good. I found a recipe which made 1 loaf, rather then the one I would have used from years past. It looks different this year, and looks like the last picture you posted, I put it in a cake pan. Nothing on top, not my choice. I think it would be rather good with the sprinkles and frosting. "That is not how mom made" I would hear. Oh well, maybe one day I will make one like that for myself, maybe next year. I've done it the other way for 25 years. I'd like to see how that tastes, sure looks good. Happy Easter. Love the yellow, so springy...

  7. Happy Easter to you and yours too. We are all adapting on what is usually a family celebration day. Technology keeps us together still.

  12. Happy Easter! I have no idea about getting rid of the wild bleeding hearts, just dig as many roots out as you can would be my advice. Do you not like them filling in the gaps around the perennials, or do they overwhelm them?

  14. Happy Easter, GM!! Those paska buns look fabulous, and I've never heard of them before! I would want the icing too, yes. We had a quiet, unusual Easter. No sunrise service by the river. No music. No dinner with family. But we are safe at home, and oh so thankful! Blessings to you and yours.
