The Wild Garden

In the very back of our place is an area where I've put things I didn't know where to put and  let the Welsh Poppies, Ferns, and whatever else that wants to grow  live in peace. It's messy and I've had offers to "tidy it up" but I like it this way.

In the corner there's a Weigela that makes me happy. I don't know what happened to the birdhouse.

I can't decide what to grow in the big black pot. Something tall maybe and doesn't mind mostly shade. The Hosta was moved from in front of the house because it took up so much space.  Does anyone know what it's called?  I knew once but have forgotten.

It's a sunny day so far but clouds and showers are in the forecast so I will go and see if the weeds I hoed yesterday are indeed dead .

One last picture. My pink Clematis is blooming but not nearly as full as other years. When it is done we'll have to give it a good pruning and see if next year will bring more flowers.  Isn't that what a gardener always says?  Next year...

  1. That Weigela is beautiful! It all is. You surely have a green thumb. I've always felt I do pretty good but seem to have better luck with bringing the "almost gone to heaven" flowers in the clearance section back to life than I do buying something that really looks fresh and good. LOL! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  3. How about begonias in that shady black pot? And maybe some lamium for when they aren't blooming?

    1. I have never had any luck growing Begonias but I have several clumps of silver Lamium so that's a start.

  4. Is that a Clematis Montana? It's similar to mine. They dont really need heavy pruning, just a clip when the flowers finish. But they do respond to feeding.
    Your Weigela is just gorgeous!

    1. Yes, that's the one. For some reason I keep forgetting its name. Thanks for reminding me.

  5. Your garden looks very inviting! Impatiens are a good shade plant and they have lots of colors. I love how your clematis grows over the roof!

  6. Your garden is beautiful. I don't know any thing about plants or flowers so I wouldn't be able to give you any advice on anything but I sure do loe to look at other peoples gardens and beautiful yards. :-)

  8. I think your big hosta is 'Elegans'. Lots of places in my garden are "messy", as things tend to reseed where they want to. I like it that way too.

    1. I was hoping you'd know which one it most probably is. Thanks, Linda

  11. One of my grandmothers always left a back corner of her garden to grow 'wild' - she called it her Fairy Garden, a place where the fairies could gather together and dance :)
In reality, I think it was a hard area to weed and she also enjoyed the wildlife that lived there.

  12. I love the wooden trees they look so effective and have inspired me to try and make one similar if you don't mind.

  13. I have so loved everything you showed...love that corner...love the hosta. I have one about like that that I showed a pic of last year. I think I knew its name at one time but don't remember it either. Love the way that clematis is growing..it is so pretty.

  15. Another plant I love but which I don't have the right amount of shade for is fuchsias.... though they used to grow so beautifully in my grandma's sunny north-facing bed. Hmmm... maybe it's just the heat here that makes it hard for them.
